At 36, he is still one of the fittest in a team that sets the benchmark for fitness in Indian cricket, among the quickest between the wickets around the world and is as sharp as he has ever been behind the stumps. MS Dhoni like wine is just getting better with age. While doubts were raised about his prowess ahead of the Sri Lanka tour he has been piling on the runs since and all of them have come when the team was at the edge of the cliff. But that isn’t enough to convince Mohinder Amarnath that Dhoni can last till the 2019 World Cup.
The Indian team management recently made it clear that they weren’t thinking beyond the former skipper as Ravi Shastri said he is the best in the world and has a lot of importance for the team. Amarnath said that if Dhoni continues to play well he will be able to make it that far but the World Cup 1983 champion player doesn’t believe in tomorrow.
Never believe in tomorrow
“It will all depend on his performance. I never believe in tomorrow. If Dhoni plays well, I wish him all the luck. I hope he will play like this in future too. If he does, then he will be there in the 2019 World Cup,” Amarnath told mid-day.
He stated that the young team led by Virat Kohli has talent, variety, quality as well as self-belief and these are the qualities that will help them overcome the real test when they play overseas. He wants to wait and see how the team fares but believes they will do well.
“The young team has talent, variations, quality and self-belief. All these qualities are necessary, but it will be a different challenge when they play abroad. Let’s wait and see. I have faith in them,” the legend added.
