On December 9, Wednesday, India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel put an end to his 18-year journey in the cricket world as he announced his retirement from all the formats of the game. The batsman decided to bid adieu to the gentleman’s game after being in and out of the National Team for many years.

Walking the field for the first time in Test cricket on August 8, 2002, Parthiv became the youngest wicketkeeper in the purest format of the game as he was just 17 years and 153 days old. Though he couldn’t get many chances in his interrupted career to don the blue jersey, the Ahmedabad-born made sure to keep his fans entertained on and off the field.

During the early days of his cricket career, Parthiv was subjected to a hilarious prank on a famous MTV show named ‘MTV Bakra’ that left the fans in splits. Though Rahul Dravid was also parked on the same show, the case was quite extreme for Parthiv.

In the early 2000s, ‘MTV Bakra’ was a hugely popular show among the youth in particular with famous comedians Cyrus Broacha & Cyrus Sahukar and their team pulling pranks on not just ordinary citizens but also some known personalities.

The incident dates back to 2003 when Parthiv was looking to establish himself in the Indian national team. Parthiv was traveling via a taxi in Gujarat when the driver informed him that he was experiencing some pain in his chest and wouldn’t be able to drive the vehicle. The driver further requested Parthiv to drive the taxi and take him to the hospital.

However, the wicketkeeper-batsman soon found himself in trouble as the two actors, who were essaying the role of policemen, stopped the taxi and accused Parthiv of driving the car despite being underaged. The batsman was already 18-year-old and had a driving license to his name and showed the same to the cops.

However, the policemen refused to believe Parthiv and insisted that he is just 17 years old and that his license is not valid. The player tried to pay the fine to let go of the matter, however, the cops were adamant on their stand. Parthiv was eventually let off, but not before being made to apologize repeatedly despite no wrongdoing on his part.

After successfully completing their prank, the cast of the show revealed their true identity which left the cricketer bemused. However, the same cannot be said of those watching who certainly were in stitches at Parthiv’s expense.
