3 T20 captains that fans may have forgotten
There have been many players whose captaincy in T20I cricket went unnoticed.
Captaining a national cricket team is no mean feat in any format including in the shortest format which demands a captain to constantly be on his feet right from the word ‘go’. He/She needs to strategize regularly especially in the powerplay overs when the bowlers are getting hit as the batters take maximum advantage of having only two fielders in the 30-yard circle.
While the legendary MS Dhoni and former English limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan are two of the most successful captains in this format, there have been many good players who have captained their respective national teams, but somehow have been forgotten over a period of time.
Here’s a look at three of them.
3. JP Duminy
JP Duminy was one of the finest all-rounders to have represented South Africa in an illustrious international career that spanned for one-and-a-half decades. While he was known for his game-changing knocks in the middle order, the southpaw also provided handy breakthroughs with his right-arm off-break.
Apart from all these, Duminy is also one of the highly underrated T20I skippers for the Proteas having led them in 11 matches between 2014 to 2019 winning six and losing five of them with a winning percentage of 54.54%.
Duminy went on to represent South Africa in 81 T20Is scoring 1934 runs including 11 half-centuries at a strike rate of 126.24 with his highest score being 96. He has also taken 21 wickets at an economy of 7.76 with his best bowling figures being 3/18.
