Big Bash, is an Australian professional Twenty20 cricket league that is governed by Cricket Australia, which was started back in 2011 and in the upcoming season, the governing body of Big Bash League (BBL) has made some amendments in the rules for the teams playing in the finals.

According to Cricket Australia, the contentious boundary countback tie-breaker rule won’t be used in the Big Bash tournament in Australia this season. As per the boundary-count rule, if the Super Over also ends on a level, then the team scored more boundaries in the match will be announced as the winner. Under the new rules, if two teams are tied at the end of a final and then again after a Super Over, subsequent Super Overs will be played until there is a clear winner in both the men’s and women’s T20 leagues.

The rule that ended up with England winning World Cup 2019

In the recently concluded World Cup 2019, New Zealand put up a score of 241-8 and bowled out England for 241. Under World Cup final rules, the tied match went to a Super Over in which the best batsmen of one team try to score the most runs against a nominated bowler from the other. Both teams scored 15 runs in Super Over but England won on a countback of boundaries scored during the match. England won the World Cup title for the first time, but there were many critics of the tiebreaker formula.

The ICC chief executive Geoff Allardice felt earlier that looking forward to the criticism of the rule will be considered and discussed in the Cricket Committee, chaired by former India captain Anil Kumble and featuring former players Andrew Strauss, Mahela Jayawardena, Rahul Dravid, and Shaun Pollock at their next meeting in early 2020. It is expected that this rule will also see some changes ahead of the T20 World Cup 2020 which is going to be held in Australia.

Currently, Big Bash League will be heading towards its 9th season, which consists of 8 teams and Melbourne Renegades were the champions of the BBL in 2018-19 season. The other four teams which have won the title are the Adelaide Strikers, Sydney Sixers, Brisbane Heat and Sydney Thunder.
