Marcus Stoinis batted out full 20 overs scoring a record 147 from only 79 balls with 13 fours and 8 sixes. He shared a 207-run opening partnership with Hilton Cartwright (59 off 40) as the Stars finished with 219/1 in their 20 overs. Sydney Sixers fell apart in the chase losing a flurry of wickets in the middle overs. Ben Dwarshuis scored an unbeaten 17-ball 42 at the end to push the Sixers to 175/7.

The total of 219/1 is overall the 3rd highest total for any team in the Big Bash League. The top two totals came during the 2016-17 season when the Hobart Hurricanes made 223/8 in response to Melbourne Renegades’ 222/4 in the match hosted by the Docklands Stadium.
392 – A total of 394 runs were scored by both sides in this match; the 9th highest aggregate in a Big Bash League game and the highest aggregated BBL match at the MCG.

147* – Marcus Stoinis’ unbeaten 147 is now the highest individual score in the Big Bash League surpassing D’Arcy Short’s unbeaten 122 for the Hurricanes against Brisbane Heat in the 2017-18 season. Stoinis’ knock is also the highest individual T20 score on Australian soil going past Shane Watson’s 124* for Australia in the 2016 Sydney T20I against India.
79 – The 79 balls by Stoinis are the joint-most number of balls faced by any player in a Twenty20 inning. Aaron Finch also faced 79 balls for his unbeaten 131 for Surrey in the 2018 T20 Blast against Sussex.
100 runs through boundaries:
100 – Marcus Stoinis scored 100 of his 147 runs through boundaries; the first player to aggregate 100 boundary runs in a BBL inning. The previous most runs in a BBL inning through boundaries was 86 runs each by Luke Wright during his 117-run knock in 2011-12 and Ben McDermott in 2016-17 when he scored 114 against Renegades.
8 – The 8 sixes hit by Stoinis are the 2nd most in a BBL inning for the Melbourne Stars. Luke Wright hit as many as 9 sixes during his 117-run inning against the Hobart Hurricanes in 2011-12.
The first-ever 200-run stand:
207 – The 207-run stand between Marcus Stoinis and Hilton Cartwright is the first-ever double-century partnership in the Big Bash League history and also the first 200+ partnership for any wicket in Twenty20 cricket on Australian soil. Rob Quiney and Luke Wright’s 172-run opening stand also for the Stars against Hobart Hurricanes in 2011-12 season was the previous highest partnership for any wicket.
Overall, the 207-run by Stoinis-Cartwright pair is the joint 4th highest opening partnership in the T20 history and also the joint 7th highest T20 partnership for any wicket.
Dwarshuis and Curran bag embarrassing feats:
61 – Ben Dwarshuis conceded 61 runs in this match; the most runs conceded by any player in a Big Bash League match. Daniel Worrall in the 2014-15 season against Hobart Hurricanes for the Melbourne Stars and Brisbane’s Ben Laughlin on Saturday against Perth Scorchers conceded 60 runs apiece in a BBL match.
3 – This was the 3rd time that Tom Curran conceded 50+ runs in a Big Bash League match; the most by any bowler in the BBL history. Curran conceded 52 runs against Brisbane Heat and 58 runs against Melbourne Renegades this season.
3 – Dwarshuis and Curran became only the 3rd pair to concede 50+ runs in a Big Bash League inning. Luke Feldman and Mark Steketee conceded 53 and 50 runs respectively while playing for the Brisbane Heat during the 2015-16 season game against Hobart Hurricanes. On Saturday, Ben Laughlin (60) and James Pattinson (52) became the 2nd such pair when they faced Perth Scorchers.
