Garry Sobers top-scored for his team in the first innings with a classical 260-ball 174, which comprised 24 boundaries in total. He combined with Seymour Nurse (137 off 323) to put on a 265-run stand for the fifth wicket to take West Indies to 500.

England's bottom five (No. 7 to 11) were undone by Sobers, as he ended up being the most economical amongst his teammates with splendid figures of 5/41 in 19.3 overs. England ended up falling for 240 in 78.3 overs.

Sobers played a handy part to wrap up England's second innings where they were following on. He picked up three crucial wickets (3/39 in 20.1 overs) and supported Lance Gibbs (6/39 in 19 overs) as West Indies won by an innings and 55 runs.
