The inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League kickstarted in 2008. It has been fifteen years since then and the lucrative T20 tournament has given a platform for several players around the world to assemble and strive to become the best.

The T20 extravaganza has also witnessed many youngsters set the stage ablaze with their sensational performances and make the tournament their own.

Each IPL team has players from different corners of the world and to bind them together as a unit, every franchise requires a gun coach to manage them and bring the best out of them.

A good coach can utilise all his knowledge and resources to design an environment that physically and mentally prepares players for matches. He/she ensures that the players become a better version of themselves with each passing game.

In the cash-rich league, there have been many coaches who have performed their roles incredibly well and guided their teams to success.

Here are the five most successful coaches in IPL history:

5. Ricky Ponting

Ricky Ponting is one of the greatest captains in the history of world cricket. The ace batter led the Aussies from 2004 to 2011 in Test cricket and from 2002 to 2011 in ODIs and under his leadership, Australia scaled every possible peak. The veteran batter also guided Australia to two ODI World Cup triumphs.

The legendary cricketer has transcended roles in the last decade or so ever since he called time on his playing career but his astute understanding of the game has remained constant and it has been on display time and again in the IPL.

Ponting, after being associated as a player with Mumbai Indians in 2013, was appointed the team’s head coach in 2015. The Tasmania-born led Rohit Sharma & co. to glory in the same edition and stayed with Mumbai till the 2016 season.

Ponting joined Delhi Capitals in the 2018 season. He transformed a bunch of youngsters into a match-winning outfit. After failing in the 11th IPL edition, Delhi reached the playoffs in 2019 and then played the finals in 2020. Rishabh Pant & co. also made it to the knockout stage in the 14th edition of the lucrative T20 tournament.
