Former Australia cricketer and World Cup winning captain (2003 & 2007) Ricky Ponting in an interview with the International Cricket Council (ICC) emphasised how the game has evolved over the years for certain teams. Ponting is known to be a champion of the sport and is arguably one of the most celebrated players of all time.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2022 is underway with the First Round fixtures about to conclude and the Super 12 stage set to start on October 22, Saturday. Ponting is impressed with the shift in terms of progress in the game by the Asian teams over the years.

The cricketer-turned-commentator cum coach voiced his opinion on how teams have put together pace bowling set-ups that have handed success to them on big occasions.

"If you think about it now, Pakistan have probably had a fast bowling culture over the last 20–25 years, more so than the spinners. In their last ten or 15 years in international cricket, India have produced high-quality fast bowling as well,” said the former World Cup winner.

"When you used to go to the subcontinent, whether it was India, Pakistan or Sri Lanka, you'd be facing a lot of spin bowling and not a lot of fast bowling. That has changed dramatically over the last 30 or 35 years that I've been in and around the game,” Ponting added.

India have developed competitive breed of pace bowlers

India have groomed many youngsters that have flourished into world-class pacers and bamboozled batters with their brute pace. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammad Siraj, and young Arshdeep Singh are examples who have made a name for themselves and done a magnificent job for the national side in recent times.

Moreover, it is also the domestic leagues such as the Indian Premier League (IPL) among others, that have given young lads a platform to rise above the ranks. Ponting is the Head Coach of Delhi Capitals in the IPL.
