Rajasthan Royals (RR) will battle it out against Gujarat Titans (GT) in a bid to extend their unbeaten run in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2024). The Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur will welcome Titans in Match 24 on Wednesday, April 10. Both the teams had contrasting results in their previous encounter and it is obvious that the visitors will be eager to taste success in the upcoming affair.

GT have had an inconsistent campaign so far and are coming into the contest on the back of two consecutive defeats. They have lost three out of five matches and currently sit in seventh position on the points table. On the other hand, Royals remain the only unbeaten team and are placed at the top of the table with eight points from four matches.

Flipping through the pages of the history book, GT has outclassed RR in their head-to-head encounters. The two have faced off five times in the league's history, with Titans winning on four occasions. RR's only win came in the first league match of the 2023 season, but GT gave it back with a nine-wicket win in their last meeting. However, history has no significance for Royals, who are in excellent form this time around.

Here are the top 3 player battles to watch out for in IPL 2024: RR vs GT, Match 24 -

3. Jos Buttler vs Spencer Johnson

Jos Buttler's form has been a concern for RR but the veteran opener provided a big relief in their last game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The right-hander slammed his sixth IPL century to lead his side to a comfortable six-wicket win. Royals will hope Buttler will continue from where he stopped in the previous encounter.

The Englishman is a slow poison - once settled in the crease, he wreaks maximum havoc. So, GT will aim to get his wicket inside the powerplay itself. Australian pacer Spencer Johnson is likely to have a good match-up against Buttler. The left-arm pacer will get at least two overs in the first six and will look to dismiss the RR opener to give his team an early lead.

 2. Trent Boult vs Shubman Gill

Trent Boult has a habit of taking wickets in the first over. He's done that thrice so far this season, and he's aiming for the same thunderous start against Titans.  GT skipper Shubman Gill will be Boult's primary target in the upcoming clash. Notably, Gill doesn’t have a good record against the left-arm pacer in the IPL, scoring 57 runs at a strike rate below 100 and getting out once.

The opening batter is currently the fourth-leading run scorer with 183 runs in five matches. He scored an unbeaten 89 off 48 deliveries against Punjab Kings (PBKS). GT's total score on the board will largely depend on Gill's performance, and RR will want to get rid of him early.

1. Sanju Samson vs Rashid Khan

RR skipper Sanju Samson is an excellent player against spin. The right-hander played a key role in RR's win in both the first and last matches, scoring half-centuries at an impressive strike rate. Rashid Khan is GT's trump card, but the Afghan spin wizard doesn't have the best record against the Indian batter.

Samson has amassed a total of 111 runs from 96 Rashid Khan deliveries and was dismissed only once. Samson's stats are even more impressive if you look at last season. The wicketkeeper batter scored 30 runs off 13 balls and was not dismissed even once. Not to forget his three successive sixes off Rashid in RR’s 178-run chase.
