ODI World Cup 2023: Ranking teams based on squads
The ranking is based on strengths, weaknesses, injuries and overall form coming into the mega tournament.
2. Australia
The Australian team is filled with all-rounders from top to bottom. So much so that they have banked on only one specialist spinner in their squad- Adam Zampa. With Ashton Agar unfit, instead of calling in a second spinner, the five-time world champs included Marnus Labuschagne in the squad.
They have banked on Mitchell Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell, and Sean Abbott to fill whatever gaps they have in their lineup. Steve Smith, Alex Carey, David Warner, and Marnus Labuschagne will form the crux of their batting. They are backing Travis Head to get fit in the latter half of the tournament as well.
In their pace lineup, they have experience in Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc. However, they do not have the same type of backups if any of these three get injured at any point in the tournament. It remains to be seen whether Australia can make it into the knockouts this time.
