That's all we've got for you

It was a great day of cricket, but it ends on a high. We'll be back tomorrow for the clash between India and the Netherlands on the day of Diwali, which promises to be a Super Sunday. Goodbye folks, cheers.!!

David Willey is the Player of the Match

"The tournament hasn't gone to plan for us as a whole which is disappointing. For me to be able to perform and get to 100 wickets in my last game has been a nice way to finish. You only have to look around the dressing room; we've got massive talent. There's no doubt we've underperformed here which is disappointing.

"People might have frowned at the timing of my retirement but nit many players get to walk out on their own terms. Rob Keys said to me hope you prove me wrong and I hope I've done that. Proud every time I've pulled on this shirt.

Curtains dowwn...!!!

The final nail in the coffin has been hammered away, as Ben Stokes completes the catch to bundle the Men in Green out well short in their pursuit of 338. Nevertheless, the Three Lions win.

David Willey is done

The last-ever spell by David Willey in ODI cricket ends, as he finishes with three wickets to his tally tonight. He took exactly 100 wickets in his career.

Doesn't matter how they come, as long as they keep coming.

Smoked. Absolutely!!!

Two towering maximums in the last five balls or so, as the tail-enders are having some enjoyable time with the bat.

Oh, there an appeal.!!

ENG review for lbw.

DRS says it has pitched outside the leg, and the match still has some juice in it. NOT OUT - the on-field decision stays.

Meaty blow

Mohammad Wasim Jr hits it for a four this time, as the Eden experiences fun towards the fag end of the game.

This time he goes the distance

A maximum, just over the head of the fielder at deep square leg. The 200 comes up for Pakistan.

Last man in the middle now

Haris Rauf, not-so-known for his batting, has come in as the last man. One to go for England.

38 overs done, Pakistan are 191/9.

That was plumb

Gus Atkinson catches Shaheen in front of his pads, but the batter goes up right away.

DRS says its a fair delivery.

Ultra-edge - No spike

Ball tracking says Pitched - In Line; Impact - In Line; Wickets - Hitting.

So Shaheen departs after a good 25-run cameo off just 23 balls. Pakistan are nine down.

FALLBACK

In the 44th match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Pakistan (PAK) are facing England (ENG) at Eden Gardens, marking the last league fixture for both teams. Pakistan faces a daunting task as they must defeat England by a significant margin to surpass New Zealand in Net Run Rate (NRR) and secure a spot in the semi-finals. England, on the other hand, managed to break a five-game losing streak by defeating the Netherlands in their previous match. Although their semi-final hopes have faded, they have set their sights on qualifying for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Teams finishing in the top seven spots in this World Cup, alongside the host nation Pakistan, will earn a berth in the ICC Champions Trophy. England's victory against the Netherlands elevated them to the seventh spot and improved their NRR to -0.885. Consequently, their last league match carries immense significance as they aim to cement that qualifying position.

England's own batting inconsistencies are to blame for their current predicament. A more responsible approach at the crease could have spared them from languishing at the bottom of the ODI World Cup 2023 points table. Nevertheless, their recent win over the Netherlands in Pune offers a glimmer of hope, despite encountering a minor batting collapse.

Two sides who are battling their shortcomings with ball

Throughout the tournament, England's bowling department has proven to be their Achilles' heel. Apart from the leg-spinner Adil Rashid and, to some extent, Chris Woakes, the other bowlers have struggled to appear menacing. The prevailing pitch conditions are likely to favour the bowlers, especially spinners, providing Rashid and Moeen Ali an opportunity to excel. Additionally, the pitch may favour David Willey, who can prove crucial for the Three Lions with the ball by chipping in with some wickets.

On the contrary, Pakistan's bowlers faced a torrid time in their last match. However, the pace trio of Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Mohammad Wasim Jr. should relish the conditions up on offer and pose a significant challenge to the English batsmen. Iftikhar Ahmed's spin bowling in the middle overs will be crucial, and he must be at his best to withstand the onslaught from the English batters. Any leakage of runs will put Pakistan under immense pressure.
