Lucknow Super Giants will be up against Punjab Kings in the 11th match of the IPL 2024. Both the teams are on the back of a loss in their previous games. While LSG lost to RR by 20 runs in their first game of the league, PBKS lost to RCB by 4 wickets in their last match. Both the teams were in a good position to win the respective matches. While LSG needed about 49 runs in the last 4 overs, PBKS needed to defend 41 runs in the last 20 balls.

Both the teams would be regretting to have lost their last game. They have a chance to redeem themselves by winning the upcoming match. It will be the first home game of LSG, as Ekana Stadium is set to host the match. Both teams have some of the best players in the world. PBKS have the experienced duo of Shikhar Dhawan and Jonny Bairstow as their skippers. To follow him are the emerging batters like Prabsimran Singh, Shashank Singh, and Jitesh Sharma.

The 2014 finalists have some very good All-Rounders in their lineup like Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, and Sikandar Raza. In their bowling lineup, the visiting side has the likes of Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshal Patel as the pace trio. In the spin department, PBKS have the likes of Harpreet Brar and Rahul Chahar. Likewise, LSG have some very good players in their lineup. They might have a bit of an advantage, considering how well they are versed with the home conditions.

Here is the probable playing XI of LSG for the match against PBKS in IPL 2024, Match 11:

Top order - KL Rahul (C & WK) and Quinton De Kock

Lucknow Super Giants have many options for opening. While Kyle Mayers and KL Rahul started in the previous season, the 17th season saw Rahul opening with Quinton De Kock in the first game against RR. Mayers is unlikely to feature in the game due to the team combination. De Kock did fail in the first game and would be hoping to perform in the second match. The South African would be crucial for the success of LSG considering his record in the IPL.

To open alongside him would be KL Rahul. The skipper of LSG has also taken the responsibility of keeping the wickets. It looks like the star batter is aiming to make a return in the Indian side as a WK batter. For that to happen, he must have a good season in the IPL. The opener made good strides towards it in the first game by scoring 58(44) against RR, who had a very good bowling lineup. Rahul is likely to anchor the innings and allow others to bat around him.

Middle Order - Devdutt Padikkal, Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni (Impact substitute)

In the middle order, Devdutt Padikkal is likely to bat at number 3. The Southpaw did not have a great debut for LSG. But given the form he is in, LSG would be hoping for him to deliver the goods against PBKS at home. To follow him would be Nicholas Pooran. Along with KL Rahul, he was the other batter who tried to win the game for LSG. When the Southpaw was in flow, it seemed like he would win the match for LSG. Alas, it was not to be, as RR bowlers were brilliant at the death.

Pooran though was impressive with the bat as he scored 64 runs in 41 balls. LSG would love to see him play a similar knock against PBKS given how difficult it is to score runs at a good rate in Lucknow. While batting, LSG is likely to have their impact substitute, Ayush Badoni, in the batting order. He can bat at any position from numbers 4 to 8. Against RR, he came ahead of the finishers but did not succeed. Against PBKS, he is likely to bat depending on the match situation.

All-Rounders - Krunal Pandya, Marcus Stoinis, Deepak Hooda

LSG have some good All-Rounders in their lineup. Krunal Pandya is likely to be used as a floater in between the top-order batters and the power hitters. As a batter, he can anchor the innings in the middle order. If required, he can step up and be the finisher lower down the order. As a bowler, he can bowl economical spells to put pressure on the batters. He will be highly effective with good lines and lengths, particularly at home. To follow him would be Deepak Hooda.

The star player had a forgettable season in 2023. Hooda would be hoping to have a better season in 2024. Against RR, he scored 29(16) before getting dismissed. If necessary, LSG have Krishnappa Gowtham who can come in and play a cameo with the bat and bowl economical spells as a bowler. Marcus Stoinis is the designated finisher of LSG. While he could not fire in the game against RR, it would be a good opportunity for Stoinis to return to form by firing against PBKS.

Bowlers - Ravi Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan, Naveen-ul-Haq, Yash Thakur

In the bowling department, LSG is likely to continue with the same attack. Naveen-ul-Haq and Mohsin Khan are likely to operate with the new ball. While Naveen is likely to bowl about two to three overs within the powerplay, Mohsin might be saved for the later part of the innings where he would be asked to bowl at the death. Yash Thakur is the specialist death bowler of LSG. He can nail yorkers and bowl deadly bouncers at a good pace to trouble the batters.

In the middle overs phase, LSG have a lot of options. Ravi Bishnoi would be key to claim wickets for his side. At the other end, they will have the likes of Krunal Pandya, Marcus Stoinis, and others, who would be handy. Krunal will be effective with his accuracy, while Stoinis, Deepak Hooda, and other part-timers can chip in with an over or two. Yash and Naveen can bowl an over or two in the middle overs. If required, LSG can replace Naveen with Shamar Joseph, who played a key role in West Indies' Test win at the Gabba earlier this year.
