Jamie Overton has been secured by Adelaide Strikers as their international pre-signing ahead of the upcoming Big Bash League season's overseas draft. The English bowling all-rounder has represented the Strikers across 18 matches over the past couple of seasons. The 31-year-old was the Striker's MVP last season with 11 wickets and 191 runs under his belt.

For the unversed, the BBL introduced a change of rules prior to the 2024-25 season with respect to overseas player. Teams were allowed to secure one overseas player prior to the draft. As per the regulations of the league, the player is expected to be present for the entire season (including the final). This amendment was brought in to prevent the transfer of players to rival leagues.

Head coach of Adelaide Strikers, Tim Paine, elaborated on why Overton was a 'top-priority' signing for the side. He further said that he had given some outstanding individual performances over the last couple of seasons, which brought a great sense of energy to the group.

"Securing Jamie as a pre-draft signing was a top priority for us. His last two seasons with the Strikers have been outstanding, not just with his individual performances with both bat and ball, but also with his competitive spirit and energy he brings to the group. Jamie has such a big impact over the game, he can change the course of a match in just a few overs," Paine was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

Determined to help us push for finals and ultimately, the BBL title: Overton

The England internationals expressed his delight on looking forward to representing the Strikers in a third season on the trot. He is happy to be plying his trades again with the fantastic team and the teammates as well.  He further wishes to continue the winning streak for the side.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to be coming back to Adelaide for another season. I've loved my time with the Strikers and the incredible support we get from the fans at Adelaide Oval. It's a fantastic club with a great bunch of lads, and I'm determined to help us push for finals and ultimately, the BBL title in BBL 15," mentioned Overton.

The overseas draft for the upcoming instalment of the BBL will be held on Thursday, June 19. The Strikers have picks No. 2, 10, 23 and 26.
