The high-voltage Ashes finally came to an end with Australia managing to retain the urn after the five-match series was drawn 2-2. Some enthralling cricket was played throughout the English summer as two top teams dished out their A-game to have the urn in their possession. Some controversial moments also surfaced during the encounter but none was as substantial as the Jonny Bairstow stumping in the second Test at Lord's.

For the unversed, Bairstow left his crease after thinking that the ball was dead. However, his opposite number, Alex Carey under-armed the ball to hit the stumps and find the batter short of his crease. This irked English fans and players, including head coach Brendon McCullum as they felt the dismissal was against the spirit of the game.

"I can't imagine we'll be having a beer with them any time soon. You've got to live with the decisions you make," McCullum told BBC in the aftermath of the incident.

However, after the end of the fifth Test, the 41-year-old explained how his comments were construed. McCullum also mentioned that he would love to have a beer with the Aussies.

"Yeah, we'll have a beer. If we look back to after that test match I don't necessarily think what I said was construed in the right way," Brendon McCullum was quoted as saying by India Today.

"What I was saying was I've made mistakes in the past, and there's times when you look back on some decisions with regret and I put my hand up to say that. I guess that's what I was challenging. That's the grey area around the spirit of cricket," he added.

I consider Pat Cummins one of my mates: Brendon McCullum

McCullum called Australian captain Pat Cummins a champion and one of his mates. The former wicketkeeper-batter also reminisced about the days when he worked with the pacer during his coaching stint with Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League.

"I've had the pleasure of being able to coach Pat [Cummins] over in the IPL (in India). He's an absolute champion fella, and I consider him one of my mates," said McCullum.
