One year ago on this day (June 09) at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York, India's ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah delivered a brilliant spell against arch-rivals Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The game began with Pakistan electing to field first after winning the toss. The Men in Green produce a clinical display with the ball bowling out India to just 119 runs. While all Indian batters departed quickly, it was only Rishabh Pant who managed to give a fightback with his 42 off 31 balls.

In reply, Pakistan's chase began impressively. Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam started cautiously, reaching 26 without loss before Bumrah drew the first blood, removing Babar for 13. Despite losing Usman Khan and Fakhar Zaman, Pakistan remained in the game at 80 for 3, needing just 40 runs from 36 balls with seven wickets in hand.

Bumrah's magnificent bowling led India to memorable victory against Pakistan

The right-arm pacer changed the game in the 15th over when he clean-bowled the set Rizwan. The dismissal saw the delivery appear full enough to drive but stay low, deceiving the batter completely. The wicket triggered a collapse that saw Pakistan lose their remaining wickets for just 33 runs. Bumrah's figures of 3/14 were the difference maker in the low-scoring thriller. In his four-over spell, he bowled 15 dot balls, creating pressure on the opposition.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya's crucial breakthroughs removed the dangerous Fakhar Zaman and Shadab Khan, both falling to deliveries that bounced more than expected, further putting the opposition on the back foot. Notably, Axar Patel's 18th over conceded just two runs against a left-handed batter with the short boundary on the leg side. The side was eventually restricted to 113. The successful defence of 119 runs equalled the lowest total ever defended in men's T20 World Cup history.

"It feels really good. We felt we were a little under par, and when the sun came out, the wicket got a little better, so we had to be really disciplined. I tried to keep it simple, tried to hit the seam as much as I can, focus on my execution. It felt like we were in India, and the cheering is really appreciated. We were really happy with the support we got, it gave us a lot of energy. Focus on the now. We've played two games, played very good cricket. We'll stick to our processes and come out and try our best," Bumrah said at the post-match interview.
