Sai Sudharsan has had a fantastic Indian Premier League 2024 so far. The left-handed batter had announced himself to the world during the Gujarat Titans title clash against Chennai Super Kings in 2023. The GT batter had scored 96 runs in 47 balls and had almost tilted the game towards his team. Now, a year later, Sudharsan has woven the same magic against the same opponent at the same venue. On his way to his first IPL ton, he smashed the legend Sachin Tendulkar’s record for fastest to 1000 IPL runs.

Sudharsan took just 25 innings to create the record surpassing Tendulkar who took 31 innings to do so. It is worth noting that the Tamil Nadu batter has seven half-centuries to his name in IPL.

Fewest innings to 1000 IPL runs

23 - Lendl Simmons

25 - Matthew Hayden

25 - Sai Sudharsan*

26 - Jonny Bairstow

The previous best by an Indian is Ruturaj Gaikwad & Sachin in 31 innings.

GT post challenging total on the back of twin tons

Skipper Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan scored a century each, leading the home team to a dominant position as they thwarted CSK’s bowlers. The duo batted together for a total of 98 deliveries, adding 210 runs for the first wicket. Both of them achieved their centuries in a stylish manner. Gill reached his fourth IPL hundred with a boundary past square leg in the 17th over.

This was Gill's overall sixth hundred in T20s, and his fourth in the Narendra Modi Stadium. Sudharsan reached his first triple-figure score in the IPL, with a maximum in the same over as Gill's hundred. However, both Sudharsan and Gill were removed by Tushar Deshpande in the 18th over. Gujarat Titans went on to post 231 for 3.
