A sublime ton by captain Harmanpreet Kaur and a brilliant six-wicket haul from Kranti Goud helped India seal a thrilling 13-run win over England in the third ODI at Chester-le-Street, clinching the series 2-1. The match, which saw a record aggregate of 623 runs, is now the highest combined total in a WODI featuring India and England.

The game began with India opting to bat first. Smriti Mandhana (45) and Pratika Rawal (26) gave the visitors a solid start with a 64-run opening stand. Although England bounced back with quick wickets, Harmanpreet anchored the innings, ending her lean patch. Her 84-ball 102, the second-fastest ODI century by an Indian woman, was laced with 14 boundaries.

She was supported by Harleen Deol (45) and Jemimah Rodrigues (50), with whom she stitched a 110-run fourth-wicket stand. Richa Ghosh’s late 38* off just 18 balls, took India to 318/5, with 120 runs coming in the final 10 overs. For England, all five of their bowlers picked up a wicket each.

In reply, England had no answers to pacer Kranti Goud. The 21-year-old removed both openers in her opening spell, putting pressure on the hosts early on. However, Nat Sciver-Brunt (98) and Emma Lamb (68) stabilised the innings, adding 162 runs for the third wicket. Their effort gave England hope of pulling off a record chase, but once Lamb fell in the 31st over and Sciver-Brunt departed shortly after, Indian bowlers made sure to discomfort the new batters. Deepti Sharma’s use of the DRS to dismiss Sciver-Brunt turned out to be the match-changing moment.

Goud returned in the death overs to clean up the tail, completing with 6 for 52, only the fifth six-wicket haul by an Indian in women’s ODIs. Eventually, England were bowled out for 305 with one ball to spare. Harmanpreet, who was awarded both Player of the Match and the series, chose to share her Player of the Match award with the young Goud for her bowling efforts.
