Team India, after winning the second ODI and the series will now face Sri Lanka in the third and final game at Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Batting first in the second ODI, Sri Lankan top order batters started well with the score of 102/1 inside 17 overs. However, Rohit brought in the spin bowling duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel to control the game, as expected both the bowlers did not disappoint the captain as they reduced Sri Lanka from 101/1 to 126/6.

The debutant, Nuwanidu Fernando, showed some grit and was pretty much impressive as he notched up his maiden fifty with some caution. The lower order batters though put some good fight by putting three 25+ partnerships helping Lions post a decent total of 215 inside 40 overs. Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammad Siraj bagged three wickets each for India

In response, Indian batters did not really live to the expectations as their top order batters struggled with the score of 86/4 inside 15 overs. However, experienced duo of KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya made sure India were comfortable in the chase by adding 75 runs together for 5th wicket. Hardik Pandya was out by edging against Chamika Karunaratne when the score was 161, but KL Rahul made sure the chase was in full control by notching up his 12th ODI fifty in style and eventually winning the match by four wickets to seal the series 2-0.
