On an untypically refreshing surface at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Kolkata Knight Riders broke their 12-year winless run against Mumbai Indians in this stadium. MI have now fallen to a fourth consecutive loss in this season.

MI sent KKR in and the decision paid immediate amends as Nuwan Thushara (3 for 42) removed Phil Salt in the first over. KKR never seemed to recover and slumped to 57/5 just after the powerplay. On a rather difficult surface to bat, KKR's Impact Player Manish Pandey (42 off 31) and Player of the Match Venkatesh Iyer (70 off 52) steadies the ship with some fantastic display of recovery batting putting up 83 in a little over 10 overs. Once Pandey left, Jasprit Bumrah (3 for 18) returned at the death to kill any chance of KKR making one final push and KKR could only manage being bowled out for 169.

MI didn't fare any better at the start and had lost 3 wickets in the powerplay. Suryakumar Yadav (56 off 35) kept MI in the chase despite regular wickets dropping at the other end, and once Yadav left, KKR put a very firm stronghold on the match and eventually won by 24 runs after Mitchell Starc(4 for 33) took three wickets in the penultimate over to leave MI stranded on 145. Varun Chakravarthy (2 for 22), Sunil Narine (2 for 22) and Andre Russell(2 for 30) also contributed handsomely with the ball in a designated team effort.

Here are all the stats from this match.

5 - Jasprit Bumrah became the fifth bowler to take 50 wickets at a single stadium in the IPL. He now has 51 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The list is headed by Sunil Narine who has 69 at Kolkata. He is followed by Lasith Malinga with 68 at Wankhede, Amit Mishra with 58 at Delhi and Yuzvendra Chahal with 52 at Bengaluru.

2 - Piyush Chawla broke a long-standing tie and firmly established himself as the second-highest wicket-taker in IPL history with 184 wickets.

7 - Manish Pandey became the seventh player to play at least one match in each IPL season held till now from 2008 to 2024. The other six are, Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Wriddhiman Saha and Dinesh Karthik.

8 - This was the eighth time that Sunil Narine dismissed Rohit Sharma in the IPL. This is the most that a bowler has dismissed a single batter in the IPL, breaking the tie this match-up held with six other matchups.

10 - In all T20s, this was the 10th time that Rohit Sharma was out to Sunil Narine's bowling. This is now the joint most times that a batter has gotten out to a particular bowler in T20s. The other batter with 10 dismissals against a bowler is Kieron Pollard who got out that many times to Dwayne Bravo in all T20s.

4 - This was the fourth IPL match that saw both teams being bowled out. The previous matches were:

Deccan Chargers vs RR, Nagpur, 2010
KKR vs RCB, Kolkata, 2017
