As the coveted IPL 2024 (Indian Premier League) nears the halfway stage, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will host Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. LSG are currently fifth despite having lost two consecutive matches.

In their last match which was played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, LSG were blown away by Phil Salt while defending 162 runs. That was the second time out of 15 matches that LSG lost defending 160 or more. Meanwhile, CSK put up a commendable 206 in their last match which was against MI at the Wankhede but Matheesha Pathirana pulled the Yellow army back into the game with a four-wicket haul that sealed the game for CSK despite Rohit Sharma scoring a century.

CSK's win was their first outside of Chennai and now they will be playing another away game against LSG. Giants' recent form will invigorate CSK who will fancy their chances to get to ten points and leapfrog KKR to get into second place on the points table. While an LSG win will only pull them level on points with all three of KKR, CSK and SRH.

Ekana Cricket Stadium Pitch Report:

The first match at this stadium saw LSG posting 199, but the next two matches saw first innings totals of 163 and 167. This indicates that the Ekana would once again be a relatively slow and low-scoring surface where spinners which spinners will fancy to make merry on.

LSG vs CSK Strategies & Match-ups:

Chasing has seldom come easy at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, and this game should be no different. History has been in favour of the teams batting first and incidentally, both teams batted first and were dealt with contrasting fortunes. LSG have also lost two matches consecutively while defending and CSK should look to play on that. The important matchups for this game are- KL Rahul versus Ravindra Jadeja, Nicholas Pooran versus Ravindra Jadeja, M Siddharth versus Ruturaj Gaikwad, Krunal Pandya versus Shivam Dube and Yash Thakur versus MS Dhoni, respectively.

LSG skipper KL Rahul seems to have returned to his older ways of bashing the bowlers in the powerplay, and he will enjoy facing CSK's powerplay specialist Deepak Chahar, against whom Rahul has scored 134 runs in 83 balls without ever being dismissed at a strike rate of 161.44.

Veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane has been struggling for form, and he will not be enthused about going up against a willy Krunal Pandya against whom he has scored 48 runs in 43 balls at a strike rate of 111.62 while being dismissed twice at an average of 24. On a spin-friendly pitch, this will make life difficult for Rahane.

X-Factors for LSG vs CSK:

Lucknow Super Giants

Nicholas Pooran has been playing the biggest part in pushing LSG to par totals in all their matches, and LSG will want that good form to help their batting at the bowling-friendly Ekana Stadium.

At the spin-friendly Ekana, Shivam Dube, the most potent player against spin in the CSK lineup will need to provide the impetus if CSK are to post an above-par total.
