CT 2017 final was a good time and will try to beat India again in T20 WC: Hasan Ali

Each and everyone is aware of Pakistan’s record against India in the ICC events. Apart from the Champions Trophy, Pakistan has failed to beat India in their 12 encounters against the arch-rivals in the World Cups, which includes both 50 overs cricket and T20 cricket. This is one of the reasons why there will be huge anticipation around the match between these two countries during the 2021 T20 World Cup. 

The two teams are set to start their campaign with a match against each other on October 24 in Dubai International Stadium. The match will also mark the beginning of the main round of the T20 World Cup 2021. Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali is confident that Pakistan would be able to replicate the achievements of the 2017 Champions Trophy final. 

“When we won the Champions Trophy (in 2017), it was a very good time for us and we will try to beat them again in the T20 World Cup. We will give our best. Playing against India is always a pressure game because of the expectations of fans from both countries. There is a lot of pressure and there is a lot of viewership. The conditions in UAE are spinner-friendly. But a fast bowler who bowls with variations can still be effective,” Hasan Ali said in a video on the YouTube channel.

In that tournament in 2017 in England, India had beaten Pakistan during the group stages. However, in the final at The Oval in London, Pakistan bounced back and had a terrific win. They set a total of 338 in front of India, who folded for just 158 runs, handing Pakistan a win by 180 runs in the final. This was the only time Pakistan defeated India in an ICC event during the 2010s. 

Hasan Ali was a part of the final and had bowled a good spell of 3 for 19, which played a part in Pakistan defeating India. Speaking about the T20 World Cup 2021, Ali further commented on the change in support staff with head coach Mishab-ul-Haq and bowling coach Waqar Younis leaving just ahead of the big event in UAE. Ali called Waqar his role model. 

“I was disappointed to see the coaching staff changed with the T20 World Cup coming up. But this is not our domain, it is the domain of the PCB. Our role is to perform. Vicky Bhai (Waqar Younis) is my role model and I started to bowl because of him,” Hasan Ali concluded.
