Finalists of the 2016 edition, West Indies and England will kick-start their T20 World Cup 2021 campaign against each other. The encounter takes place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Saturday (October 23). Memories will be refreshed when these two sides will take field as their last clash in a World Cup saw some fascinating action. Carlos Brathwaite famously smashed Ben Stokes for four successive sixes in the last over as West Indies were crowned T20 champions for the record second time.

Head to Head record:-

West Indies dominate England in terms of head-to-head record in T20Is. These two teams have played 18 T20I matches against each other. Out of which 11 have been won by West Indies and England have won seven games. While there’s not a massive difference in the overall T20I record, England doesn’t have anything to show in T20 World Cups. They suffered defeat all five times they met the Caribbean team in the global tournament.

Top performers:

England batter Alex Hales has a sensational record against West Indies. He has scored the most runs (423) in the clashes. Among active cricketers, the dasher is followed by Chris Gayle (409) and Eoin Morga (221). Among the bowlers, Dwayne Bravo has picked up the most wickets (12). He is followed by Adil Rashid (11), David Willey (10) and Chris Jordon (10).

Last T20 World Cup meeting:

As mentioned above, the last T20 World Cup clash between these two sides was memorable. It was the final of the 2016 edition and the venue was the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The coin landed in West Indies’ favour and they elected to bowl. The bowlers rose to the occasion and took three wickets inside powerplay overs.

However, Joe Root and Jos Buttler joined forces and took the three Lions to 155/9. West Indies’ got off to a terrible start as they lost three wickets inside three overs. However, Marlos Samuels rose to the occasion and played a brilliant knock. However, his efforts seemed to go in vain as West Indies needed 19 runs in the final over. However, Brathwaite unleashed some big hitting and smashed four successive sixes to take his side to glory.
