On the eighth day of the Global T20 Canada, the game between Vancouver Knights and Edmonton Royals was abandoned due to a wet outfield. Hence, both these teams were awarded one point each. Being a weekend, it was a doubleheader on the ninth day on the tournament.

This day witnessed both a high-scoring as well as a low-scoring game. Cricket West Indies-B team continued their dominance in the tournament as they won their fourth game on a trot. On the other hand, the Winnipeg Hawks lost their second consecutive game under David Warner falling to the fourth place on the points table. Here is how things progressed on day-9 of the Global T20 Canada.

Toronto Nationals vs CWI-B – Match 12, Round 1

The Toronto Nationals, who are currently placed at the bottom of the points table faced the strong CWI-B team. CWI-B won the toss and opted to bowl first. The Nationals lost their openers Kamran Akmal and J Charles early in the innings. CWI-B kept chipping in with regular wickets putting pressure on the Nationals. Expect for Steven Smith, there wasn’t anyone else in the lineup who managed to score with a strike rate over 100. Had it not been his 55 off 43, Nationals wouldn’t have even got to 128 in 20 overs.

With the kind of form they are in, the chase proved to be a cakewalk for CWI-B. Further, they got there in just 14.1 overs. With the help of an aggressive 37 off 18 from Shane Rutherford and a perfect support role from Justin Greaves who scored 45, the CWI-B got off to a great start. Also, B King carried on with his good form as he scored a 30 off 25 to take his team past the winning line.

Brief Scores:

TTN: 128/5 in 20 overs (Steve Smith 55*, Darren Sammy 23*, Justin Greaves 2/20)

CWI-B: 131/2 in 14.1 overs (Justin Greaves 45, S Rutherford 37, Usama Mir 1/29)

CWI-B won by 8 wickets.

Winnipeg Hawks vs Edmonton Royals – Match 13, Round 1

David Warner’s disastrous tournament is continuing – both with the bat and his captaincy. His side was put into bat first. However, they were struck with a huge blow as Warner was dismissed for a duck of his first ball. But, Lendl Simmons and Mark Deyal built a good partnership later on. These two added 99 runs together with Simmons scoring 66 off 48 while Deyal scored 64 off 39. But, the real boost to the innings came from the bat of David Miller. He scored 60 off just 28 balls to take the teams’ score to 203 in 20 overs.

The Royals chased this target over 200 with three balls to spare. Although they lost Luke Ronchi early, Andre Fletcher’s 47, Agha Salman’s 73 and Farhaan Behardien’s 62 helped lay the perfect foundation for the chase. The runs that these three have scored came at a quick pace as well. Hawks clearly missed a bowler like DJ Bravo in their set up. Shahid Afridi finished off the innings with a six.

Brief Scores:

WPH: 203/5 in 20 overs (L Simmons 66, M Deyal 64, M Irfan 2/29)

EDR: 209/5 in 19.3 overs (Agha Salman 73, F Behardien 62, F Edwards 2/33)

Edmonton Royals won by 5 wickets.
