Today was a day of low scoring matches in the ongoing ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup 2016. The Indian teens were in a destructive mood today and completely thrashed the Nepal U19 side. Afghanistan had an easy outing with Canada while New Zealand broke their losing streak with an appreciable victory over Ireland.

India blow away Nepal:

India completely dominated their neighbors Nepal in a small chase to win remain unbeaten in the tournament. The Nepal batsmen could not stand the Indian bowling attack and managed just 169 after batting out the allotted 48 overs. India, in reply got off to a stormy start with openers Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant both slamming quickfire half-centuries. Pant, in particular tore the opposition and recorded the fastest fifty in the history of the U19 International cricket. He also recorded the highest strike rate with minimum 50 runs scored in a U19 ODI innings. Pant got to his fifty in just 18 balls and finished at 78 off just 24 balls. India eventually chased down the target with 7 wickets and 179 balls to spare.

Afghanistan gets an easy win:

Tariq Stanikzai (56 from 48 balls) struck a breezy half-century to guide Afghanistan to a comfortable 4 wicket victory over Canada in the Group B match at Sylhet. The Canadian team won the toss and opted to bat first. However, the decision didn’t turn out to be in their favor as they immediately started to lose and were able only score 147 before bundling out exactly in 50 overs.  In reply, the Afghans had a decent start. Later they lost some quick wickets in the middle order. However Stanikzai was in full flow from one and kept the chase in the right track. The task did not take long for Afghanistan as they finished the chase in just 24th overs.

Brief Scores:

Canada: 147 all out in 50 overs (Arslan Khan 38; Shamsurrahman 3/21)

New Zealand registers its first win:

This was their first win in the tournament after two back to back losses at the hands of Nepal and India. The Kiwis won the toss and asked the Irish boys to bat first who could only put up 212 runs at the scoreboard before getting toppled. Left arm spinner Rachin Ravindra and off spinner Josh Finnie shared 6 wickets among them and were top performers for the Black Caps today. New Zealand’s reply wasn’t impressive as they slumped to 45/4 initially. However, a 141 run partnership for the fifth wicket between Dale Phillips (58 from 66 balls) and Finn Allen (97 from 76 balls) helped New Zealand chase down the target with 4 wickets to spare.

New Zealand: 213/6 in 40.1 overs (Finn Allen 97; Rory Andrews 4/32)
