IPL 2018: A conflict reported at the Chinnaswamy gate after KKR-RCB game

After the KKR-RCB game last Sunday, there was a conflict reported at the gate. A security guard was involved in a conflict with some lady following which he abused her. Hence, the guard was slapped multiple times by a man coming to the woman’s rescue.

It was later revealed that he was no ordinary man but an esteemed member of the elite Indian Police Service. Ajay Hilori is currently posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police. He was present in the stadium in civil clothes which is probably the reason that the guard went on to argue and abuse him.

What actually happened?

As the match got over, the woman who was an income tax officer got into a tussle with the security guard. He was selectively allowing the people to exit from the gate near IMG room, used by players and certain VVIPs. As the guard argued, the lady started taking pictures. This is where a string of abuses started and Hilori stepped in.

“I was walking out at that time with the organising in-charge Sunil. I intervened as the women were in trouble and the security started abusing me too. I was just trying to tell him that this was not the way to behave with women. Maybe he didn’t know that I was an officer. Since he was rude and abusive, I had to control him.” Ajay Hilori was quoted as saying by Bangalore Mirror.

According to Hilori, the gate lead to the parking area of VVIP vehicles and hence wondered why wasn’t it open at least for women. The elderly women accompanied by the woman in question was finding difficulty to walk into the crowd. It was only after some intervention that the guard allowed them to go.

“If any other woman or senior citizen is in such a situation, I will do the same and help them. Is it wrong to stand up for women who find themselves in trouble? We have to respect the law first; it is our duty,” he added.

However, there were questions over Hilori assaulting the guard in public space. High Court Advocate Nagendra Naik stated, “He should have complained to the jurisdictional police. A case of assault can be booked against the officer as the law is the same for everyone.”
