The luckless run of the Delhi Daredevils continued in the ongoing edition of the IPL as they lost their most recent encounter against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. It was a home game for the RCB side and they came up with an all-round show to thump the visitors convincingly in the game. Coming in to the game, both sides looked largely downtrodden and struggling.

Hence, the importance of the game was immense for both of them. They knew that one side will walk out of the park with their heads high and new hopes in the season. While Delhi’s luck continued to run out, the RCB found their senior players, AB de Villiers in particular, stepping to the occasion at the right time. The hosts won the toss and had asked the Delhi Daredevils to bat first.

The visitors were tamed in the early overs by Umesh Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. Shreyas Iyer (52) and Rishabh Pant (85) steadied the ship for them to keep the innings going. Their efforts helped the team post a decent total of 174 on the board. In the run chase, AB de Villiers played the architect-in-chief with his unbeaten 90 off just 39 balls. He made the run chase look so easy and ensured a six wicket win for his side.

Here are the player ratings for the match:

Quinton de Kock – 2/10

Quinton de Kock did not have a great time with the bat in the game. He started off pretty well with a six and a four first up. But a mix up with Virat Kohli saw him getting run out on 18 in the fifth over of the game. He will hope to get better in the coming fixtures for the side.

Manan Vohra – 1/10

Manan Vohra found a place in the side for the first time in the tournament this year. He had a very good opportunity to make things count as he had opened the innings for the RCB camp in the match. However, it was a chance gone begging as he perished to a Glenn Maxwell delivery after scoring just 2.

Virat Kohli – 5/10

The Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli had a decent time with the bat on the day. He arrived at the crease in the powerplay and the team needed some rebuilding to be done. Kohli partnered with AB de Villiers to steer the innings forward. He scored a decent 30 off 26 deliveries.

AB de Villiers – 9.5/10

The Royal Challengers Bangalore had a rough time coming in to the game. To get their spirits back, they desperately needed the senior players to step up. AB de Villiers did that to perfection and almost singlehandedly won the game for his side. He remained unbeaten on 90 off mere 39 deliveries. He clobbered sixes at will and ended up hitting 10 fours and five sixes in his unbeaten knock.

Corey Anderson – 4/10

Corey Anderson failed to impress yet again with the bat. All he needed to do was to play the supporting role to AB in the run chase. Anderson got out in the end overs with just 15 to his name. Earlier in the game, he bowled just one over and had conceded 10 runs with a wicket to his name.

Mandeep Singh – 6/10

Mandeep Singh remained unbeaten on 17 off just 9 balls with a four and a six to his name after his arrival at the crease. He arrived at the crease with AB de Villiers going all guns blazing. He largely played the second fiddle to ABD in the fag end of the run chase.

Washington Sundar – 5/10

Washington Sundar did not get a chance to bowl in the powerplays. He was introduced in to the attack pretty late on the day. But the young allrounder did a decent job by giving away only 31 runs in four overs. Also, he accounted for the big wicket of Shreyas Iyer, who looked dangerous on the day.

Chris Woakes – 3/10

Chris Woakes had a good start in the game with the new ball. Bowling in tandem with Umesh Yadav, Woakes gave a fiery start to the hosts. However, in the fag end of the game, he ended up conceding a lot of runs that spoiled his ovevrall figures. He returned with figures of 0/40 in four overs.

Umesh Yadav – 8/10

Umesh Yadav bowled with sheer aggression in the match. Umesh has been bowling fiery spells up front but has failed to deliver in the death overs. Hence, skipper Kohli decided to use all his overs in the initial part of the game. The move worked well as Umesh conceded just 27 runs in his quota of four overs and bagged the wicket of Gautam Gambhir in the match.

Mohammad Siraj – 3/10

Mohammed Siraj got an extended run in the game but failed to leave an impression. The Hyderabad pacer has largely looked off color this season in the couple of appearances he has had. He bowled four overs and gave away 35 runs.

Yuzvendra Chahal – 8/10

Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of bowlers for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the match. Chahal continued the good work of the new ball bowlers and kept things tight from his end. In the three overs that he bowled, he gave away only 22 runs. He bagged two big wickets of Jason Roy and Glenn Maxwell.
