IPL 2019: List of unsold players in the auction
Few of the big names went unsold on the day.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for the 12th season as a total of 351 players were shortlisted by the franchises. In a bid to fast-track the event, only 138 of them went under the hammer actually with few of the players’ names coming up thrice. However, only 59 players were picked up by the teams in their line-up in the end and 79 others should be deemed unlucky in this case.
Some of the big names though who didn’t get any bids from any of the teams were Brendon McCullum, Chris Woakes and Alex Hales. It was very surprising to see that these players failed to generate any interest among the teams as the franchises spent more on the unknown players.
Other overseas players who went unsold
Hazratullah Zazai and Reeza Hendricks who set the Afghanistan Premier League (APL) and Mzansi Super League (MSL) on fire this year also went unsold. While Zazai had stole the limelight for hitting six sixes in an over, the South African had displayed some amazing consistency with the willow.
Cheteshwar Pujara, who played one of his best innings in Adelaide Test recently, will continue to stay away from the glory of the league as the teams turned a deaf ear to his name. Manoj Tiwary as well failed to get a bid from the teams as he couldn’t perform to the expectations for the Kings XI Punjab in the previous season.
The likes of Rajneesh Gurbani, Ishan Porel, Tushar Deshpande among many who have been playing well in the domestic circuit also weren’t picked by any of the eight teams which left many baffled. Even the Afghanistan players were expected to get picked but none of them could attract any bids. Apart from Zazai, the mystery spinners in Qais Ahmad and Zahir Khan Pakteen were hoping to get picked in the auction. But even they were left disappointed.
