Everyone was in shock when Gujarat Titans (GT) appointed Hardik Pandya as their captain as he was coming back from an injury setback. His form with both the bat and ball was also in doubt as he did not play any competitive games for a good amount of time.

Hardik Pandya surprised his critics as he led his troops to win this trophy in their debut season. Along with his impressive captaincy abilities, He managed to score 487 runs in 15 matches at an average of 44.27. He smashed four 50+ scores at a strike rate of 131.27.

He also took eight scalps in 10 innings at an economy of 7.28. In the final, he was the Player of the Match for his all-round contribution (three wickets with the ball and 34 runs off 30 balls with the bat). His stellar performance throughout the tournament earned him a comeback call to Team India for the upcoming home series against South Africa, starting from 9 June 2022.
