IPL 2022: Ranking the teams based on their final squads

The IPL mega auction was full of action. As the team managements of different teams tried their best to form a formidable side, every franchise managed to fill up their minimum players’ quota. Now, it is up to the management and the captains how they utilize their resources. IPL has been the most sought-after league in the history of the game. Even though international cricket has higher priority, IPL has been the go-to place for someone who tries to leave their mark. Now, it will be interesting to see how a new era begins. With Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Chahar bagging multi-million deals, they will be looking forward to pushing their team over the victory line. Adding on, Rajasthan Royals has a new look and the fans will be praying for a turnaround. Meanwhile, here we rank the teams based on their final squads after the mega auction. Ranking Teams Based on their Final Squads for IPL 2022: 10. Gujarat Titans Hardik Pandya. (Photo Source: Instagram) Just when the new franchises were given a choice to pick their draft, Gujarat Lions made an excellent move by opting for Hardik Pandya, Shubman Gill, and Rashid Khan. But, as the bidding was going on at the table, it was clear that they lacked planning. They had no idea about whom to pick and whom to leave. This fact is solidified when they did not have any wicketkeepers till the final few hours of the auction. As a wicketkeeper is one of the most important positions, they needed to fill that slot. Moving on, the middle order lacks firepower as there might be too much pressure on David Miller and Hardik Pandya. However, they have a solid bowling combination in the form of Mohammed Shami, Lockie Ferguson, and Alzarri Joseph. Hardik Pandya will have to rotate his bowlers with a plan so that they are not exhausted in the middle of the tournament. Rashid Khan’s experience will be priceless as well. 9. Sunrisers Hyderabad Sunrisers Hyderabad. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The Hyderabad-based franchise had a poor start to the auction as it did not bid for any marquee players. Later on, they tried to take up multiple youngsters as well. The problem with their strategy is that they lack some solid middle-order batsmen. Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram are the big names in their purchase list. But Pooran’s lack of consistency will surely affect the Sunrisers. Adding on, Markram has to play all the games to be effective for Kane Williamson. The bowling revolves around Marco Jansen and Washington Sundar. Apart from that, Kane will have to use Abhishek Sharma and Shreyas Gopal throughout the season consistently. To make it to the top four, SRH will have to convert those tight matches into victories. 8. Kolkata Knight Riders Kolkata Knight Riders. As they had a hefty sum of money, they were able to rope in Shreyas Iyer and Pat Cummins. But, the main focus will be their performance on the game day. They opted to go for Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana, both of them have the same kind of approach towards their game. This might slow down the momentum against their favor. As they had a bad day in the office, they did make a comeback on the second day. On the second day, they managed to buy Alex Hales and Sam Billings. This was the only positive aspect of their side. They have also appointed Shreyas Iyer as their captain. It will be interesting to see how things work for them. 7. Lucknow Super Giants KL Rahul and Ravi Bishnoi. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) After they picked three superstars in the form of KL Rahul, Ravi Bishnoi, and Marcus Stoinis, all eyes were on LSG to craft a solid team from the scratch. They had an excellent cricketing brain like Gautam Gambhir. They were calm and composed from the word go and managed to build up a decent team. Although they could have performed better, LSG picked up Avesh Khan for a whopping amount of INR 10 crores. But, this purchase looks a bit overpriced. Apart from that, they opted for Dushmantha Chameera and Evin Lewis. The best pick of their bidding was Quinton de Kock. It will be a treat to watch him bat alongside KL Rahul. Adding on, they have managed to buy Mark Wood as their specialist fast bowler. They can go the distance in the IPL if they manage to implement their plans correctly. 6. Chennai Super Kings Chennai Super Kings. (Photo Source: Disney + Hotstar) This time as well, there was no surprise for the CSK fans. The management tried to bring back their core and they were somewhat successful. However, the question still looms on the team as to who will take over after MS Dhoni decides to retire. Even though CSK was calm and composed during the auction, one can not state that they were too bad this time. They have backed experience over anything else and this has made them one of the strongest franchises in the history of the league. With Rayudu and Robin back into the side, the middle order looks solid. Apart from all the buybacks, they have invested in the Under-19 star Rajvardhan Hangargekar. All-rounder could be given proper chances by MS Dhoni and India might secure their specialist all-rounder. Well, teams like CSK have been consistent and it will be interesting to see how things pan out this time. 5. Mumbai Indians Mumbai Indians. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The only reason MI is placed higher than CSK is their superb investment in the future. If we analyze their performance in the auction, it is more or less mediocre. This time around, they have an exceptional pool of overseas players. We will be witnessing the Bumrah-Archer bowling pair in the next IPL. Apart from that, Tymal Mills is the backup pacer for them. It was disappointing to see them give up on Avesh Khan and Kartik Tyagi easily as their Indian bowling unit looks thin on paper. The middle order is weak as Kieron Pollard is at the twilight of his career. Talking about good purchases, they have invested in Dewald Brevis, the U19 superstar. It will be interesting to see how they utilize their resources this time around. Rohit Sharma has a lot of thinking to do as they might be affected by bad purchases. 4. Royal Challengers Bangalore Royal Challengers Bangalore. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) It was an important auction for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Even though they have not been able to lift the trophy even once, they are trying their best to put up solid performance as a unit. The best thing about their unit is that this time around, Virat Kohli will play freely as a batsman. Even though they messed up during the initial phase of the auction, they made a strong comeback during the latter half of the event. They managed to buy Faf du Plessis and Wanindu Hasaranga. This time around, it looks like RCB have a clear plan. Apart from that, the likes of Shrefane Rutherford and Finn Allen are excellent purchases. Talking about their bowling, Harshal Patel will be leading the pack along with Siraj. On paper, it looks like a solid team as of now. 3. Rajasthan Royals Sanju Samson. This time around, they have managed to buy Yuzvendra Chahal, R Ashwin, and a fast bowler in the form of Trent Boult. It was very clear that they wanted some big names in this auction. With Riyan Parag being drafted into the side, the selectors have shown that they wish to nurture future stars. Apart from that, with Shimron Hetmyer in the team, they have ensured that for one overseas loss, they have a backup. This is important as last time, they missed Ben Stokes badly. During the final phases of the auction, they roped in some big names like Rassie van der Dussen, Jimmy Neesham, and Nathan Coulter-Nile. If the management picks up the best XI possible, they will be unstoppable this season. It will be interesting to see the duo of Jos Buttler and Ravi Ashwin on the field. 2. Punjab Kings Mayank Agarwal. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) It is safe to say that PBKS had done their homework this time around for the auction. They had opted for poor retention choices but things turned in their favor once the auction was over. The Kings have all the bases covered and they have the second-best squad this time around. There is no doubt that there have been issues with the team selection for PBKS over the years. But, things might go in their favor once they find the right combination. Punjab might become the force that it used to be in 2014. With Dhawan, Bairstow, Mayank, Livingstone, and Shahrukh forming the top order, the opposition has to come up with a proper strategy to contain this lineup. Apart from that, they have picked Raj Bawa to play the role of the star U19 player in a line-up. 1. Delhi Capitals Rishabh Pant. (Photo Source: Twitter) Delhi Capitals has the best team this season. They started the auction with a bang as they bought David Warner for INR 6.5 crore. This means that we will witness the pair of Shaw and Warner this time around. With a top-notch squad, DC should lift the trophy. However, things change drastically once the tournament starts. They have the likes of Sarfaraz Khan who recently scored a century in a domestic game and have bought Mustafizur Rahman which can turn out to be bargain buys. Even though the spin department lacks a premier spinner, they can manage by grooming other players. Adding on, the only minor issue with them is their backup. But, given the fact that they are the fittest side this season, that should not be a problem. Captain Pant will also be crucial for their chances to lift the trophy this time.
