IPL 2022: Rating teams based on their performance in the seventh week

The Week 7 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 got concluded with Punjab Kings (PBKS) securing a victory by 54 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The result of this fixture promises a tight finish in the last week of the ongoing season, with a total of seven teams playing for finding a spot in the second to the fourth position in the points table. The Gujarat Titans (GT) became the first team to qualify for the playoffs. None of the teams who featured in two games could secure back-to-back victories in the past week and had average performances. Apart from RCB, Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals (RR) need another win to confirm their qualification to the playoffs. The teams like Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will play for their respect in their remaining two league matches. 10. Sunrisers Hyderabad – 6/10 Sunrisers Hyderabad. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) After sustaining two losses, Sunrisers Hyderabad made a great comeback by winning five games on the trot in the first half. However, they have again lost track and lost their four consecutive games. In the past week, they featured in only a single game against RCB. The bowlers were average to concede a big score of 192. The most successful bowler for the team was Jagadeesha Suchith with two wickets to his name. The other bowlers proved to be expensive and could not be much effective in taking wickets. In the batting department, both openers Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma perished for a duck. Although Rahul Tripathi scored a fifty and tried to stitch partnerships with Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran, all failed to last longer to reach the opposition’s score. 9. Kolkata Knight Riders – 7/10 Kolkata Knight Riders. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) One of the most inconsistent performances has come from the KKR team in the ongoing season, wherein they have not trusted their experienced players and have involved more than 20 players in the playing XI. In the last fixture, they made five changes, which depicts instability in the team. In the first game of the past week, they faced LSG and conceded 176 on the board, with Andre Russell picking two wickets. In the batting department, Russell contributed 45 off 19 balls, but the team lost by a big margin of 75 runs. In the second outing, they secured a victory by 52 runs against Mumbai Indians. KKR scored 165 on the board with 40+ scores from Venkatesh Iyer and Nitish Rana. Then Pat Cummins and Andre Russell won the game for the team by picking three and two wickets respectively. 8. Chennai Super Kings – 7.5/10 Chennai Super Kings. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) CSK played two league matches in week 7, and secured victories in one of the fixtures. In a game against Delhi Capitals (DC), openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (41) and Devon Conway (87) were terrific to put up a stand of 110 runs. Then, Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni accelerated and helped the team to post a score of 208 on the board. In response, the opposition could score only 117, with Moeen Ali being the pick of the bowlers with three dismissals. In their next outing, they faced their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians, and started on a disappointing note, with five batters already making their way to the pavilion in the powerplay overs. Skipper MS Dhoni’s knock of 36 off 33 balls paved the way for the team to score 97. Pacers Mukesh Choudhary and Simarjeet Singh were terrific with their performances with the new ball and put pressure by dismissing four batters in the first six overs. However, the opposition showed fine grit and chased down the score. 7. Delhi Capitals – 7.5/10 Delhi Capitals. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Capitals featured in two games in the past week and had a 50% win ratio. In the first game against CSK, the average performance from the bowlers helped the opposition to score 200+ runs and have an advantage after the first half of the game. The best performing bowler was Khaleel Ahmed with figures of 2/28 while Anrich Nortje took three wickets by giving away 42 runs. In the second half, it was a disappointing effort from the batters, as they could not convert their starts into big ones, As a result, they lost the game by 91 runs. In their second outing, they faced a strong team, Rajasthan Royals (RR). This time, it was a fine effort from the bowlers to contain opposition to 160. Chetan Sakariya, Mitchell Marsh, and Nortje picked two wickets each. After an early wicket of Srikar Bharat, David Warner (52*) and Mitchell Marsh (89 off 62) were terrific with their stand of 144 runs, which sealed the game for the team, and kept their hopes alive of reaching the playoffs. 6. Mumbai Indians – 8/10 Mumbai Indians. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) MI played two matches in week 7, and won on one of the two occasions. In the first game against KKR, the bowlers delivered fine performances to restrict opposition to 165, with Jasprit Bumrah recording figures of 5/10 in four overs. In reply, Rohit Sharma fell early, and others could not contribute to the cause as well. The wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan scored a half-century and the team lost by 52 runs. In their second game against CSK, the bowlers were terrific to bundle out the opposition for a score of 97, with Daniel Sams picking three wickets. Then. MI also could not get a desired start with four wickets falling in the first six overs. However, Tilak Varma (34*)and Hrithik Shokeen (18) again came to rescue the team in a fine fashion and stitched a stand of 48 runs. The finisher Tim David hit two sixes to seal the third victory for the team. 5. Rajasthan Royals – 8/10 Rajasthan Royals. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) One of the most balanced teams on the paper have been average with their performances this week. They won one out of the two games in the past week. In their first league match, they were up against PBKS, and the bowlers could not be proficient enough and conceeded 189, with only notable performance from Yuzvendra Chahal, who picked three wickets. In response, the batters were up to the task and delivered a terrific start, by hitting close to 60 runs in the powerplay overs. The partnership of Yashasvi Jaiswal (68) and Devdutt Padikkal (31) helped the team to seal the game. In the next league game, they were up against DC, and could score only 160 on the board with the half-century from Ravichandran Ashwin. In the bowling unit, only Yuzvendra Chahal and Trent Boult were able to take a single wicket. 4. Lucknow Super Giants – 8/10 Lucknow Super Giants. In the first league game, they were up against KKR, and posted a score of 176 on the board, on the back of Quinton de Kock’s half-century and Deepak Hooda’s 41. Then the likes of Avesh Khan and Jason Holder picked up three wickets each to secure a big win of 75 runs for the team. In their second league game, they faced Titans in a table-toppers clash. The bowling performances were again impressive to restrict the opposition to a score of 144, with Avesh Khan picking up two wickets, and almost all of them were economical. However batters failed to get going and the wickets fell like a pack of cards, and the team lost by 62 runs. This loss means they will have to get another win in their remaining games to seal the playoffs spot. 3. Punjab Kings – 8/10 Punjab Kings. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) PBKS lost to RR in their first outing in the last week. They were terrific to post a total of 189 on the board on the back of strong performances of batting unit, and Jonny Bairstow scoring 56 off 40 balls. However, they were average with the ball could not pick enough wickets, as the opposition chased down the score easily. In the second league game, they faced RCB and started with all guns blazing and posted 209 on the board. The two Englishmen Jonny Bairstow (66) and Liam Livingstone (70) were terrific with their efforts to put pressure on the opposition bowlers and score at a sublime rate. It was an improved performance of the bowler and fielders, who helped the team to win the match by 54 runs. The likes of Kagiso Rabada took three wickets, while Rishi Dhawan and Rahul Chahar picked two wickets each. 2. Royal Challengers Bangalore – 8.5/10 Royal Challengers Bangalore. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) RCB were average with their performances in the week 7, where they secured a dominating victory in the first game, and lost by a big margin in the second game. In their first outing against SRH, they scored 192 on the board, with Faf du Plessis scoring 73* off 50 balls, Rajat Patidar accelerating with 48 off 38 and Dinesh Karthik providing a late flourish with 32* off 10. The bowlers were impressive with their performance to secure a 67-run victory as well, with Wanindu Hasaranga finishing with figures of 5/18 off four overs, and Josh Hazlewood with 2/17 in his full quota of overs. In the second game, they were up against the challenge of PBKS, where they faltered with the ball to give away over 200 runs. The saving grace for the team was Harshal Patel with four wickets. In the batting department, Glenn Maxwell (35) and Rajat Patidar (26) were key contributors in a disappointing night for the team, as they lost by 54 runs. 1. Gujarat Titans – 9/10 Gujarat Titans. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The Titans became the first team to qualify for the IPL 2022 playoffs, with a terrific performance against Super Giants. In the batting department, they could post only 144 on the board, which was way below the par score. The opener Shubman Gill was the top-scorer for the team with 63 off 49 balls, comprising seven fours. In the end, David Miller and Rahul Tewatia provided 20+ contributions to the team. With the ball in-hand, GT secured early wickets of the opposition in the powerplay overs. The brilliance of Rashid Khan played a key role to breakthrough the middle-order and open the doors of victory to the team. In the end, Rashid finished with four scalps, and Yash Dayal and Sai Kishore picked up two wickets each. This was a complete team performance from the Titans, and they will be confident of doing well in the upcoming games as well.
