IPL 2022: Updated Points Table, Orange Cap and Purple Cap lists after LSG vs SRH
Lucknow Super Giants beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 12 runs
The Lucknow Super Giants got the better of Sunrisers Hyderabad by 12 runs in the Match 12 of IPL 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on April 5. By virtue of this win, they have now won their second straight game. SRH, on the other hand, have a lot of work to do after losing both their opening games.
As far as the game is concerned, Hyderabad skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to bowl first. His decision seemed to be spot on as LSG lost their top order and were reduced to 27/3 in the fifth over. However, captain KL Rahul stood like a solid rock from the other end and played a counter-attacking knock.
He was involved in an 87-run fourth-wicket stand along with middle-order sensation Deepak Hooda. Both of them registered their respective half-centuries. While Rahul scored 68 runs from 50 deliveries, Hooda contributed with a valiant 33-ball 51 as LSG posted a fighting total of 169/7 from their 20 overs.
Jason Holder bowls a match-winning final over
Chasing 170, the Sunrisers Hyderabad batters yet again could not apply themselves as they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals which derailed their momentum. Skipper Williamson and Abhishek Sharma did add 25 runs for the opening stand but, barring two of the batters that followed none of them managed to prolong their stay at the crease.
Rahul Tripathi and wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran tried their level best to reduce the deficit but their dismissals at crucial junctures put SRH on the backfoot. Tripathi top-scored for his side with 44 runs off 30 deliveries while Pooran scored a 24-ball 34. Bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar also scored 18 runs off 14 balls and took the game to the last over.
Lucknow captain KL Rahul handed over the ball to West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder who not only defended 15 runs successfully but also made an impact in the wickets column. He conceded only three runs and took three wickets to finish with figures of 3/34 from his four overs at an economy rate of 8.5.
