The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the most prestigious T20 franchise league in the world. Big hits are the order of the day in any T20 tournament, and it is no different in the IPL. The fans would be excited for this year’s IPL taking place not only because of its uncertainty at the start due to the pandemic, but also because there are a lot of power-hitters in this year’s competition of the lucrative league. Players like Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Kieron Pollard, MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya are few known names who are known for launching the ball into the stands, but also there are some unknown packages as well who are known for the power hitting in likes of Nicholas Pooran, Ishan Kishan , Shimron Hetmyer to name a few. Talking of big hitting, a few bowlers have also fallen prey to certain batsmen in the IPL . So, let us look at the batsmen who have hit the most sixes of a particular bowler in IPL history: – 1. Kieron Pollard (Amit Mishra- 14 sixes off 79 balls) Kieron Pollard and Amit Mishra. (Photo Source: Getty Images & Twitter) Pollard has played 148 IPL matches so far all for MI and has scored a total of 2,755 runs at an average of 28.69 and a strike rate of 146.77. A Mumbai Indians’ veteran you can truly call him. Whenever Pollard and leg-spinner Amit Mishra, who is the second highest wicket taker in the IPL have faced off against each other, it is the big West Indian that has gotten the better of the opposite. Pollard has plundered 14 sixes off Mishra’s bowling. Leg spin has been a potential banana skin for Pollard in the past, but he seems to be enjoying facing Mishra’s leggies. No Mumbai Indians fan would forget the 2013 IPL onslaught by Pollard against SRH where he ended with 66 off 27 balls to win MI a game from the clutches of defeat. He had hit Mishra for three sixes in an over in that game, which turned out to be the turning point of the match. He has also smashed Mishra for five sixes in a game which was during the 2014 IPL held at UAE. Pollard would be fancying himself against the DC leggie this time around as well in the UAE. 2. Chris Gayle (Piyush Chawla- 11 sixes off 64 balls) Chris Gayle and Piyush Chawla. (Photo Source: Twitter) Chris Gayle will be waiting to face Piyush Chawla during this IPL since he has always had an upper hand against the bowler in the IPL. The West Indian has smashed 11 sixes off the 64 balls he has faced of Chawla and has been dismissed just once by the leg-spinner. Gayle’s strike rate against the leg-spinner is 181.25. Piyush Chawla, who is the fourth highest wicket-taker in IPL history, does not have a record against Chris Gayle to boast about. And will be hoping to improve his record against Gayle this IPL with the slow, dry wickets expected to favour him in this year’s edition. Both are expected to come face-to-face when CSK face KXIP. 3. Suresh Raina (Piyush Chawla, 10 sixes of 101 balls) Suresh Raina and Piyush Chawla. (Photo Source: Twitter) The second highest run-getter of the IPL, Uttar Pradesh’s Suresh Raina has had the better of his CSK teammate Piyush Chawla in the tournament, which has been taking place since 2018. The Chennai Super Kings veteran has a total of 194 sixes in the IPL, of those 10 have come off the bowling of his teammate Piyush Chawla who has represented KKR and KXIP before. With the 33-year-old Raina not playing this year and both in the same team, this record may remain untouched for some years. Raina backed out of the IPL due to ‘personal reasons’. 3. Andre Russell (Mohammed Shami- 10 sixes off 26 balls) Andre Russell and Mohammad Shami. His effortless power-hitting has left all the fans awestruck since the previous two IPLs. Mohammed Shami will have to very wary of Russell when he bowls to him in this IPL. Russell has smashed Shami for sixes after sixes in the IPL. The West Indian has batted at a strike-rate of 335.71 against the Indian fast bowler in the cash-rich league. Since Russell is in good form, he will fancy his chances against the speedster this year. Russell played some scintillating knocks for Jamaica Tallawahs in the 2020 Caribbean Premier League (CPL). 4. Glenn Maxwell (Karn Sharma- nine sixes off 28 balls) Glenn Maxwell and Karn Sharma. (Photo Source: Twitter) At his best, Glenn Maxwell can be one of the most feared batsman in IPL as he could score easily and win his team from any position just like Andre Russell from KKR. The Victorian woudl be plying his trade for the Kings XI Punjab this season. One bowler Maxwell would like to target is Karn Sharma against whom he had an excellent record . The Australian has tonked 9 sixes of Karn’s bowling in just 28 balls which he has faced and the stats itself show Maxwell love facing the leggie. Sharma is a part of the Super Kings, though he may not get a whole lot of chances due to the presence of more prominent names like Imran Tahir, Piyush Chawla and Mitchell Santner. 5. Chris Gayle (Bhuvneshwar Kumar- nine sixex off 88 balls) Chris Gayle and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. (Photo Source: Twitter) No player scored more runs against Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the IPL than Chris Gayle. Despite a reputation of struggling against a moving ball and quality bowlers, Chris Gayle had a great record against Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the IPL so far. He has hit 9 sixes off the fast bowler in the 88 balls he faced. The nine sixes Gayle hit against the SRH’s spearhead are also the most for any batsman in the IPL. He has got out to Bhuvneshwar only once in the IPL. Gayle managed to play out the threat of Bhuvneshwar on most occasions as he has a dot balls % of 54.29 against the SRH’s vice-captain.
