Northamptonshire are set to host India in the 2nd T20 warm-up fixture at County Ground in Northampton on Sunday. The Indian side continues their preparation for the upcoming three-match T20I series against England, starting on the 7th of July. They played their first warm-up clash against another County side Derbyshire on Friday.

In-form batter Deepak Hooda scored 59 runs off just 37 balls and Sanju Samson played a crucial knock of 38 runs to guide India to an easy seven-wicket win. In the bowling unit, uncapped pacer Arshdeep Singh took two wickets for just 29 runs to make a point for a place in the starting eleven.

India have decided to give a chance to the current squad for the opening T20I match against England. Regular captain Rohit Sharma will be leading the team but red-ball team players Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, and Shreyas Iyer will miss the first match due to an ongoing Test match against England. But all the players return for the last two matches which force Samson, Rahul Tripathi, Arshdeep, Venkatesh Iyer, and Ruturaj Gaikwad out of the team.

Venkatesh, who has been warming the bench lately, was given a chance in the first warm-up clash and he impressed with his bowling. He is likely to get another chance alongside uncapped batter Tripathi. Northamptonshire are currently struggling for consistency with three defeats in the last five Vitality T20 Blast 2022 fixtures.
