The United States of America (USA) has been in the eyes of cricket for a long time. The market invites a lot of financial gains for the sport but the game has never really caught on in the region. But, in the last few years, the rise has been significant and there have been several developments. If all things go according to the plans, the USA might soon host a world event.

According to the reports, the International Cricket Council (ICC) might give the hosting rights of one major men’s event to the USA in the next cycle of global events. Between 2024 and 2031, ICC is set to host several high-profile tournaments, which starts with the 2024 T20 World Cup. The 2021 and 2022 editions have seen 16 teams play 45 matches, but the 2024 edition is set to have 20 teams and 55 matches.

Going by the report published on Cricbuzz, there is every chance that the 2024 edition will have the USA as a co-host. It has been reported that Cricket West Indies (CWI) will present a joint bid for the tournament alongside USA Cricket. If that turns out to be true, then the biggest and grandest T20 World Cup will be jointly hosted by the USA and West Indies.

Pakistan, India, England, Australia, and New Zealand will be in contention for other events

The ICC has been planning to get into the USA market as mentioned before. There has already been an attempt to get the sport into the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Given this, it would only make sense for ICC to have its own event in the lead-up to the big event. The reports of the 2024 edition’s hosts have been speculated after the broadcasters also confirmed something similar.

Apart from the 2024 T20 World Cup, the next cycle will see two 50-overs World Cups (2027 and 2031), two 50 overs Champions Trophy (2025 and 2029), and three additional T20 World Cup (in 2026, 2028, and 2030). There will also be the World Test Championship finals in 2025, 2027, 2029, and 2031.

It has been reported that India is likely to get the 2031 World Cup, which will be the last event of that cycle. India could host a couple of more tournaments, but what format will that be can’t be confirmed as of now. Apart from the USA-West Indies and India, Australia, New Zealand and England are also contenders. Pakistan have also shown interest in hosting a tournament in the next cycle, either alone or jointly with another cricket board in Asia.
