Sunrisers Hyderabad may have to play all their home matches out of Hyderabad

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) yesterday announced a change in the schedule for three matches due to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections. The DD vs MI match has been shifted out of the national capital and will be played in Mumbai now. If reports are to be believed the Sunrisers Hyderabad matches to be hosted in Hyderabad will be moved out as well. The Hyderabad Cricket Association employees are on a strike and there are no signs that would suggest of it coming to an end soon. This has put the HCA and the BCCI in a fix where they are pondering over moving the games out from Hyderabad to Raipur. Over 120 employees, which also includes groundsmen, have been on strike since the first week of March for not having been paid their salaries for the last two months. The cash-drought caused the HCA to plead with BCCI for the release of funds, but so far it has been in vain. Secretary of HCA, John Manoj said he had been writing letters to BCCI but has got no reply as yet as per reports in Telangana Today. Apart from the opening ceremony scheduled on April 5, the city was to host eight matches, including the final on May 21. This was because Hyderabad won the title last year, and as per IPL rules, the winning team plays host to the opening and closing game of the tournament. This may not be the first time the IPL matches had to move out of Hyderabad. 7 years ago in 2010, owing to the Telangana movement, several matches were shifted to Mumbai and Nagpur. There are still two weeks for the tenth edition of the cash-rich T20 league to begin, and fans will be hoping that the matter is resolved before that. The match between Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians on the initially scheduled date will now be played at 8 pm instead of 4 pm, in Mumbai. Due to this change, the match between Rising Pune Supergiants and Sunrisers Hyderabad on the same day will be played at 4 pm. Furthermore, Delhi will host Mumbai on May 6 at the Feroze Shah Kotla, instead of the Wankhede, the original venue.
