T20 World Cup 2021: Best XI of Super 12 Week 2

The ongoing ICC T20 World Cup has been entertaining to say the least. The games, however, have been topsy-turvy. While we saw a few high-scoring matches, the rest were low-scoring due to the slow pitches on offer. While Australia have been superb, South Africa aren’t too far behind. However, it is England from Group 1 who have been unstoppable. The Brits are yet to lose a game in the tournament so far. When we speak about the second group, Pakistan have looked unbeatable. However, who are the players who have been at their best in the second week of the Super 12? Today we shall be taking a look at the best XI of Super 12 Week 2 T20 World Cup 2021. For this, the games which took place from October 30 to November 5 have been considered. Here’s the Best XI of Super 12 Week 2: 1. Jos Buttler (WK) Jos Buttler. (Photo by Alex Davidson/Getty Images) Jos Buttler has well and truly been the boss of the second week of the Super 12. He has terrorized the opposition bowlers so far. It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that he has been hitting the big shots for fun. He annihilated the Aussie bowlers as he went on to score 71 runs. The astonishing part is that he took just 32 balls to get these runs. In the process, he also ended up scoring the then fastest fifty of the tournament taking only 25 deliveries to get to his half-century. This knock included 5 boundaries and 5 sixes. He then scored an unbeaten 101 against Sri Lanka and the knock consisted of 6 fours and as many maximums. 2. KL Rahul KL Rahul. (Photo by Francois Nel/Getty Images) Despite a lukewarm start to the tournament, KL Rahul is now back to the groove. The Indian opener seems to have got his lost form back. He was influential in India’s wins against Afghanistan and Scotland as well In India’s third game against Afghanistan, he scored a superb 69 from just 48 deliveries. This knock included 6 fours and two sixes. He then ended up scoring another half-century against Scotland. He took the Scottish bowlers to the cleaners as he was hitting sixes for fun. Rahul ended up scoring 50 from just the 18 deliveries smashing the fastest fifty of this edition of the tournament. The Karnataka batsman had a strike rate a whopping 263.16 in this innings. 3. Aaron Finch (C) David Warner and Aaron Finch. (Photo by Alex Davidson/Getty Images) Aaron Finch wasn’t really in the best of forms to start the tournament with. He wasn’t able to make a mark in his team’s first two games against the Proteas and Sri Lanka. However, his performances in the next two games were superb. Despite a rather dismal performance by the Aussies in their game against England, he was one of the few positives. The Aussie skipper scored the most number of runs for Australia in that game. He got to 44 off 49 deliveries and tried his best to anchor the innings. However, it was his performance in the next game which proved everyone why he is truly back to form. The Aussie opener went all guns blazing against Bangladesh and scored a quick 40. It took him just the 20 balls to ensure that his team wins big against their opponents. 4. Charith Asalanka Charith Asalanka. (Photo by Francois Nel/Getty Images) Charith Asalanka is Sri Lanka’s new hero with the bat. The talented batter has managed to grab the headlines with his excellent shots while batting at number three. It seems as if Sri Lanka have found an absolute gem of a player. The first two games in this week weren’t really fruitful for him. He scored 21 against South Africa as well as England respectively. However, both these knocks came at a decent strike rate as he didn’t waste any balls. Asalanka was at his best against the West Indies. The Lankan batter scored a brilliant 68 from just 41 balls and also won the Player of the match award. 5. David Miller David Miller and Kagiso Rabada. (Photo by Alex Davidson/Getty Images) If it’s in the arc, it’s definitely out of the park. David Miller ensured that the deliveries bowled in his V were smacked out of the park. Fans across the world were really happy to see vintage Miller at his best during the second week of the Super 12. It gets better when you realize that his job is to be aggressive from ball one. In the game against Sri Lanka, all hopes looked lost for the Proteas. They kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. They then had to score 25 from the last 12 deliveries. The ask became tougher as they had to chase 15 from the final over. It was then when Miller hit two sixes and ensured his team crossed the line. He then scored an unbeaten 5 in the next game against Bangladesh. 6. James Neesham James Neesham and Glenn Phillips. (Photo by GIUSEPPE CACACE/AFP via Getty Images) James Neesham didn’t have too many opportunities to make a mark in the first week of the Super 12. However, it was in this week where he got a few chances to impress one and all. The batting all-rounder didn’t disappoint and ensured that he performed well. The Kiwi all-rounder scored 10 runs off 6 balls against Scotland. As he came to bat during the last 2 overs of the innings, he had to start hitting from ball one. However, it was the game against Namibia where he showcased his brilliance. He scored 35 from just 23 deliveries and finished the innings superbly for the Kiwis. The fact that Neesham also took a wicket in the second innings was an icing on the cake. Thus, he went on to win the player of the match award for his all-round show. 7. Wanindu Hasaranga Wanindu Hasaranga. (Photo by Gareth Copley-ICC/ICC via Getty Images) Wanindu Hasaranga has been one of the best performers in the shortest format of the game of late. His skills are superb to say the least. The all-rounder was again at his best during the Super 12 stage of the World Cup. In Sri Lanka’s game against the Proteas, he took a hat-trick. The South Africa batters were struggling to pick his variations. Hasaranga was again superb against England. In a game where most of the Lankan bowlers were taken to the cleaners by Buttler, he was one of the bowlers who was good. The leggie took three wickets against the Brits and gave just the 21 runs. Last but not the least, he took two wickets against the West Indies as well. 8. Chris Jordan Chris Jordan. (Photo by AAMIR QURESHI/AFP via Getty Images) Chris Jordan is considered to be one of the best in this format for a reason. He has been Eoin Morgan‘s go to man for a really long time. He has done no damage to his reputation as he has been good in the recent games of this tournament as well. Firstly, he was amazing against the Aussies. The pacer picked three wickets against them including key wickets of Aaron Finch and Steve Smith. He continued his good form against Sri Lanka too. The seamer took two wickets and gave away just 24 runs against them. If England are to do well in the knockouts of this T20 WC, then it is really important for him to continue his good form. 9. Adam Zampa Adam Zampa. (Photo by Alex Davidson/Getty Images) Adam Zampa has been a revelation in the shortest format of the game. Of late, he has been one of Australia’s key weapon with the ball. There’s a reason why he has picked the second-most number of wickets in the second round of the tournament so far. Despite a bad day on the field, he made it up in the next game against Bangladesh. He was picking wickets for fun against them that day. Zampa also missed a hat-trick with wicketkeeper Matthew Wade dropping the catch behind the stumps. Nevertheless, the leggie went on to pick a fifer against the Bangla tigers. This resulted in him winning the player of the match award as well. Aussie fans would hope that he keeps on performing like this for a really long time. 10. Tabraiz Shamsi Tabraiz Shamsi. (Photo by Gareth Copley-ICC/ICC via Getty Images) Tabraiz Shamsi is by far the most improved player in this format. He has been the “X Factor” for the Proteas so far in the tournament. Not many batters have been able to pick his deliveries. The spinner took three wickets against Sri Lanka. Alongside those three wickets, he was economical as well as he gave just the 17 runs in his 4 overs. This enabled him to win the player of the match award against them. Shamsi then took two wickets in the next game against Bangladesh as well. His economy rate was again on the lower side (5.2). The Proteas fans would be hoping that he replicates this performance in their next game against England as well. 11. Anrich Nortje Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje. (Photo by Isuru Sameera Peiris/Gallo Images/Getty Images) Anrich Nortje has been too hot to handle for the oppositions in World Cup. His slower deliveries are quicker than the quickest deliveries of a few bowlers. His performances are one of the major reasons behind South Africa’s impressive performances. The pacer first picked 2 wickets against Sri Lanka and gave just the 27 runs. His economy rate in this match was just 6.8. He was again superb against Bangladesh. The speedster picked 3 wickets in just 20 balls against them conceding runs at an economy rate of only 2.4. His bowling is going to be the deciding factor in South Africa’s next game against England.
