TNPL releases its schedule for this season starting July 22

The Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL), after a successful inaugural season in 2016, is all set to host its second edition and the schedule has recently been announced by the TNCA (Tamil Nadu Cricket Association). The league is scheduled to commence from July 22 as head teams collide against each other in T20 fixtures.

The eight teams to participate in the tournament are Albert Tuti Patriots, Dindigul Dragons, LYCA Kovai Kings, Karaikudi Kaalai, Chepauk Super Gillies, VB Thiruvallur Veerans, Madurai Super Giant, and Ruby Trichy Warriors. The tournament opener would witness defending champions Albert Tuti Patriots taking on Dindigul Dragons at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Much like the Pune franchise removing the letter ‘S’ from the word Supergiants to become Rising Pune Supergiant, Madurai too followed the footsteps of Sanjeev Goenka in this regard, by removing ‘S’ from their Supergiants to become Madurai Super Giant. The Trichy franchise has also made another change in their name, They would now be called as Ruby Trichy Warriors instead of Ruby Kanchi Warriors.

Overall, as many as many as 32 matches would be played, which would include 28 round robin matches, in three venues. TNPL will now include Playoffs, much like in the IPL, where two qualifiers and an eliminator would take place instead of the semi-finals.
