The last few days have been bittersweet for the India captain Virat Kohli. While amassing 200 runs in a superlative performance in the first Test match, Kohli galloped his way towards a personal best Test ranking in terms of points and position whilst also the historical best for any Indian batsman with 934 points. He dethroned Steven Smith and is the first Indian to reach the summit of the rankings since Sachin Tendulkar in June 2011. He also maintains the No. 1 rank in ODIs at present.

He also shut down his critics who slammed him for his previous performances in England back in 2014, beating his previous aggregate of 134 runs in the 5 Test matches in one inning. However, his performances were not enough for India to become the first Asian team to register a win at Edgbaston and start the 5 Test series on a winning high. Kohli also came under scrutiny from various legends, including Sourav Ganguly and Sunil Gavaskar, for his captaincy, his team selections (notably the omission of Cheteshwar Pujara) and the lack of preparation of the team in general.

Kohli on the personal front is also known to express his love and admiration for wife Anushka Sharma publicly as well as on all social media platforms. Most recently, while celebrating his first Test century in England, Kohli pulled his wedding ring out of his shirt to give it a kiss before looking at his wife and throwing a flying kiss with his bat.

This gesture melted the hearts of many Indian fans, who aren’t averse to watching Kohli dedicate his special knocks to Anushka. It was Friendship Day on 5th August, the first Sunday of the month and as millions around India celebrated the occasion he put up a picture with his better half who is also his best mate.
