10 Interesting facts about Murali Kartik that you should know: Murali Kartik celebrates his 39th birthday today, born on 11th September, 1976 Murali Kartik could never be a prominent member of the Indian team. He played at the time when Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh were the leading spinners of the Indian side and remained an understudy. 1. From medium pace to slow-left-arm:
Murali Kartik originally started with medium pace bowling, his idol being Sir Gary Sobers. However at the age of 15 his height was only 5’2”, and his coach advised him to take up slow-left-arm orthodox bowling. Former Indian left arm spinner, Bishan Singh Bedi and Maninder Amarnath have played a vital role in shaping up his career.

Murali in his career featured for India, India Green, Kings XI Punjab,Kolkata Knight Riders, Lancashire, Middlesex, Pune Warriors,Railways, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Somerset and Surrey.
3. Early days:
Murali Kartik was a part of the U-16 Delhi team but he could not make it to the U-19 team.
4. Irani Trophy record:
He also holds a record in the Irani Trophy, where he took 9/70 in the 2nd innings bowling them out for 184. He missed the chance to take the 10th wicket, which was scalped by Sarandeep Singh.

The Indian left arm spinner was never a prominent member of the Indian team but he is the only Indian to play in Indian Premier League, The Champions League T20 (CLT20), Stanford T20 and the T20 tournament in England.
10. Lancashire debut:
Murali Kartik made his county cricket debut for Lancashire in 2005. In his maiden game he went on take a 10-wicket haul with a 5-for in each innings.
