The 35th match of the Indian Premier League – IPL 2020 witnessed a nail-biting afternoon clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The third Super Over of the IPL 2020 resulted in an easy victory for Knight Riders as the New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson emerged as a match-winner in his first match of the season.

The thrilling affair began with skipper David Warner winning the toss and making an interesting choice of fielding against the Knight Riders. With Shubman Gill’s knock of 36 off 37 and the quick innings by the captain Eoin Morgan and wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik of 34 off 23 and 29* off 14 deliveries resulted in KKR racking up a decent total of 163 on the board. As far as the bowling is concerned, T Natarajan took two important wickets of Rahul Tripathi and Andre Russell while Basil Thampi, Vijay Shankar and Rashid Khan have one each to their name.

In reply, the new opening duo of Jonny Bairstow and Kane Williamson collected 57 runs in the powerplay. However, the Orange Army soon collapsed as they lost their three wickets in the form of Williamson, Priyam Garg and Bairstow within 10 overs. Further, Manish Pandey and Vijay Shankar also lost their wickets cheaply and the SRH was reeling at 109/5 at the beginning of the 15th over.

The all-rounder Abdul Samad and skipper Warner tried to stitch a partnership to take the team to the finish line but Samad lost his wicket in the 19th over while trying to hit big. Despite making 17 runs in the last over, SRH couldn’t secure the match as they fell short of one run and the game went in Super Over.

Pacer Lockie Ferguson had a golden day today as after bowling a magical spell of 3/15 in his four overs, he again came in Super Over and took two wickets of David Warner and Abdul Samad while giving just 2 runs. It was like a cakewalk for the KKR batsman as they had to score only 3 runs to add another victory. Rashid Khan bowled the Super Over for Hyderabad but couldn’t repeat what Lockie did for his team and SRH lost the game.
