World T20 is a great stage see established and emerging talents taking up the challenge and put in their best performance for their countries. However, there are few who individuals who missed out being in the team to compete in the mega-event. They were once proven match-winners but later lost their way due to injuries, lack of form and various other reasons. Here in this article, we try to list out such 10 players who missed the World T20 1. His Big Bash League and Pakistan Super League performances show that he is still the same run making machine. Many called out for his Kevin Pietersen’s name to be included in the England World T20 squad. But, the ECB remained firm on its stance and the flamboyant right-hander missed out on his chance to feature in the T20 extravaganza. 2. Luke Wright appeared for the England team in all the World T20 from the 2007 edition to 2012 edition. The right-hander was also part of England’s only ICC Major Event triumph, The 2010 World T20. In fact, he had a great time in the last edition he played in the 2012 edition. However, a series of bad performances saw Luke Wright lose his place in the team back in 2014. But, ever since facing the axe, Wright has been performing well in the domestic leagues and needed a serious look-in. Unfortunately, the 34-year-old found no place in the new age England team full of young rising players. The batting order looked sorted in the presence of the likes of Jason Roy, Alex Hales, Eoin Morgan, Jos Buttler and others. 3. Saeed Ajmal: Saeed Ajmal(Photo by Clint Hughes/Getty Images) The magician Saeed Ajmal was a very vital part of the Pakistan team until he was suspended for suspect bowling action in 2014 and was asked to undergo rehabilitation. Ajmal came back with changed action but wasn’t able to bowl the doosra with same lethality seemed to have lost his magic. He had decent success in domestic competitions and looked to be getting back into his old rhythm. However, Pakistan selectors did not consider his case for selection. Yasir Shah’s suspension had brightened his chances but eventually the selectors opted not to include any front-line spinner which marred his chances of coming back into the national team. 4. Narine was called for suspect action in 2015 and was suspended from International cricket. He has been working hard to resurrect his action since then. Later it was reported that Narine has remodeled his action is set to return and was also named in the West Indies 2016 World T20 squad. However, the wily off-spinner decided to opt out citing that he needed to work more on his action and isn’t fully prepared for the competition. 5. Kieron Pollard: Kieron Pollard (Photo by Francois Nel/Getty Images) Kieron Pollard’s exclusion from the World T20 squad was a jolt for the preparation of the West Indies side. All-rounder Pollard, who is one of the most successful hard-hitter in the shortest format, had to pull out of the mega event due to a knee injury. He picked up the injury ahead of last year’s Big Bash League completion in Australia and couldn’t recover from it in time. Pollard is influential in all aspects on the field and had great experience of playing in the Indian conditions. 6. Irfan Pathan: Indian bowler Irfan Pathan. He made a roaring comeback in the Ranji competition taking 13 wickets in the 3 games. He fared even better in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy where he emerged as the highest wicket-taker with 17 wickets in just 10 games. Around the same time, India was also in search for a seam-bowling all-rounder. His chances looked bright but his comeback to the national team became tougher with the emergence of young all-rounders who filled the place which could have potentially been his. 7. Manish Pandey: (Photo Source: Getty Images) Manish Pandey has always been finding opportunities to cement hi place in the Indian team. The young Karnataka batsman has been a prolific run-getter in the domestic competitions and the IPL. Pandey has done well in whatever opportunities that has come his way. The young right-hander cracked a match-winning century against Australia in his last T20I appearance. But, all his efforts were not still enough to find a place in the strong Indian batting line-up. 8. Dwayne Smith: Dwayne Smith(Photo By Randy Brooks/Sportsfile via Getty Images) It doesn’t remain clear whether why Dwayne Smith was ignored for the World T20. Smith has been a reliable man as a top order batsman and could have been a perfect aggressive partner for Chris Gayle in the mega event. He was also getting runs in the domestic league. He scored 153 runs including a title-clinching 73 in the final for the Islamabad United team in the Pakistan Super League. 9. Chris Lynn: Chris Lynn of the Heat. However, unfortunately, he could emulate his BBL exploits at the international level. He made his debut in the home T20 series against India which was seen as an audition for the World T20s. However, he could not capitalize on the opportunity, making just 32 runs in the 3 T20Is he played and thus lost out on his place in the World Cup squad. 10. Mitchell Starc: Mitchell Starc. Starc picked up stress fractures in his ankle during the historic day-night Test against New Zealand in November last year. He has been since recovering from the injury and is currently undergoing rehabilitation in the national Cricket Center, Brisbane. Starc was a lethal force for the Australians in limited overs cricket and his absence will surely be missed.
