12-year-old boy kills his friend over a 250 rupee cricket bet

The accused boy along with one of his friends was interrogated for a long time by the Liluah police and one of the boys confessed the crime.

Cricket is a sport which is loved and played all over India. And the craziness of the fans for the game has reached a different level over the years. While the culture of betting has been associated with the game of cricket for long, it can provoke dangerous and life threatening incidents.

A similar incident took place in the Howrah district of West Bengal when a 12-year-old boy killed his friend as they had a quarrel regarding a bet placed on a cricket match. The accused has been arrested going by the words of the police.

The victim and the accused were both residents of Daspara and had placed a bet of Rs.250 on a cricket match. The loser was expected to pay the mentioned amount to the winner after the result of the match was decided.

The victim’s father Kanhaiya Paswan described the whole incident. The father said that his son won the bet but was refused the money by the accused which provoked a quarrel between the two of them.

“They had bet Rs. 250 on the match. My son won the bet and demanded the money. But he (the accused) refused to pay the amount.”

“He then brought my son to a nearby garden and beat him up mercilessly. He then smashed my son’s head with a brick. My son became senseless. Then he throttled him”

The accused then disfigured the victim’s body in an attempt to hide his crime. Then he dragged the body to a nearby jungle and covered it with shrubs and bricks.

The boy along with one of his friends was interrogated for a long time by the Liluah police and one of the boys confessed the crime. “One of the boys broke down and confessed the crime,” the cops said.

The victim’s father rightly demanded punishment for the accused. “I won’t get my son back. But the killer must be punished
