Bollywood actress Preity Zinta bought her second team in the world of cricket in the name of the Stellenbosch Monarchs. The beautiful actress was unveiled as the 8th owner of the upcoming T20 Global League organized by Cricket South Africa (CSA), on Friday. Zinta, who is also the owner of the Kings XI Punjab in the cash-rich Indian Premier League mentioned that she won’t team up with Ness Wadia this time and would go alone.

What Preity Zinta said:

Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, the B-Town girl confirmed that she is flying to South Africa. She had also expressed her happiness on Twitter about the same earlier and thanked CSA for the opportunity.

“Solo this time,” she told Mirror in a written letter. “Yes, Thanks to the T20GL I’m going to South Africa.” she added.

Speaking of the price at which she bought the franchise, Zinta said “It is 30 million dollars. It’s unfair to compare anything to the IPL. We will chat about (returns) after the season,”.

According to Preity, she would not invest the money gained from the Indian Premier League and said that the Stellenbosch chapter was planned much before the IPL media rights deal was penned on September 4. Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan also owns a team in the highly awaited T20 Global League in the name of the Cape Town Knight Riders.

“I had already decided to come on board before the media rights came out but yes, it definitely helps.” she said.

“This was not a planned move, I just went with the flow. Some things are meant to be. It also helped that Shah Rukh & Delhi (GMR) were there and that the overall numbers were working.” stated Zinta.

“The numbers have done the talking. Thank you Star TV, thank you BCCI, thank you IPL and thank you Lalit Modi,” she said.

The Stellenbosch franchise was up for grabs as the previous owners Brimstone Investment Corporation Limited backed out at the last moment. Preity Zinta capitalized on the opportunity and became the second Bollywood celebrity after Shah Rukh Khan to own a cricket team outside the country of India.
