Indian Premier League 2020 has dealt with a major blow as the Coronavirus outbreak forced BCCI to the tournament’s postponement. There are still question mark over the commencement of the league as the conditions at the moment are not fit for any global sporting event. Things have gone from bad to worse as the outbreak of Coronavirus has taken several lives across the globe.

The sports industry has suffered huge losses due to the same. The governments have announced lockdowns in the country. Moreover, they have asked the people not to go out in social gatherings as a part of the precautions. IPL 2020 was scheduled to begin from 29th of March. But, BCCI had no option left but to postpone it to the future after many state governments raised voices against the commencement of the cash-rich league.

It is expected that BCCI will suffer huge losses if IPL 2020 gets cancelled. Meanwhile, the career of many players is also at the stake as far as their cricket career is concerned. After the IPL, Australia is scheduled to organize the T20 World Cup that is slated to begin in October. And this was the only chance for some of the Indian players to put their contention forward in front of the selectors. Now, if the T20 World Cup doesn’t happen, then there are some high-profile Indian cricketers that might lose their spot in T20 World Cup squad.

Let’s check out the players that are expected to lose their spot in T20 World Cup squad:

1. Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson, the young wicketkeeper-batsman from Kerala is in the spotlight since long. He has given extra-ordinary performances in the domestic circuit as well. He was given a couple of chances in the T20I series against New Zealand. However, he could not make the most out of it. It is known that he is always looked down as the second choice glovemen by the Indian selectors, who always preferred Rishabh Pant ahead him.

Now, the selectors have given Rishabh Pant’s to KL Rahul, who has performed exceptionally well for the team in the last couple of months. As far as the current situation is concerned, the place of Rishabh Pant is in doubts. And, IPL 2020 is the only chance for Sanju Samson to prove his worth with the bat and gloves– that can get him his place in the T20 World Cup squad.

And if the cash-rich league gets cancelled, Samson might lose his spot from the T20 World Cup squad. Moreover, the new selectors then might pick Pant and Rahul as their preferred wicketkeeper for the mega-event.

2. Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep Yadav, the Indian spinner is having a tough time as a bowler in the shorter format for Team India. The upcoming T20 World Cup will be played in Australia and he is yet to come out with some brilliant performances in the shorter format.

In the concluded year, he got to play only two T20Is and the preference was given to Yuzvendra Chahal ahead of him. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja, who is a prolific all-rounder, is playing the role of the second spinner in the team.

It looked like Kuldeep Yadav might grab his spot back in the team on the back of brilliant performances for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2020. However, things have gone bad from the perspective of the chinaman bowler. This looks like the only chance for Kuldeep to file his contention for the World Cup squad. And if IPL 2020 gets cancelled, then he might lose his chance to play for Team India in the mega-event.

3. MS Dhoni

Majority of the Indian fans want MS Dhoni to play in the T20 World Cup. It is not a secret that every fan is quite emotionally attached with the veteran cricketer, who has helped Team India in winning many prestigious trophies. But now, it looks quite difficult for him to make his way back into the national side.

Dhoni has not played a single international game since 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. After the mega-event upset, he went onto a long sabbatical. After a long gap, he hit the nets for Chennai Super Kings and began with his preparations in pre-season camp for IPL 2020.

The fans were hoping that their beloved cricketer will mark his comeback into the national team on the back of his IPL performances. But due to the Coronavirus outbreak, things have gone bad and the tournament is on the verge of getting cancelled. If that happens, then Dhoni might lose his place in the T20 World Cup squad as there are no big events ahead where he can prove his worth to the selectors. But, his presence on the field in the T20 World Cup will undoubtedly have a great impact on the opposition.
