Pooran’s fellow West Indian mate, Shimron Hetmyer like himself, is a talented batsman. Shimron has been playing international cricket since 2017. He is a top-order batsman with strong power-hitting abilities. He was bought by Rajasthan Royals for a high-end price of INR 8.50 crore. The southpaw has justified with some crucial knocks that assisted the Royals to cross the finishing line a few times this season so far. He has scored a total of 227 runs in the eight matches with a healthy average of 56.75 and a stunning strike rate of 171.97. He has chipped in with some vital knocks and a match-winning knock of 59 runs in 36 balls against Lucknow Super Giants.

To make comparisons is not an ideal way to judge someone’s capabilities but to make a case for why Hetmyer would have been a better deal than Nicholas Pooran for Sunrisers Hyderabad, there are a few parallels here, both are aggressive power-hitting batters, they both comprise finishing abilities, both are athletic fielders but why Shimron seems a better choice is because he has that never-give-up positive flair in his batting approach.

Not that Nicholas Pooran is an inferior player but the way he has been playing this season seems a bit subdued and against his natural game which is mirrored by his strike rate of 120.83. Shimron Hetmyer’s price and the value he put forth this season is an important factor to uphold the suggestion that Shimron would have been an excellent choice over Nicholas Pooran.
