Adam Zampa has picked up 21 wickets in 14 matches in IPL, at a bowling average of 17.61 and a more than decent economy of 7.73. For someone with these sort of numbers, and for someone who has been around since 2016, it is an anomaly in the fabric of spacetime that Zampa has played so few of IPL matches. While it is not a hidden secret that foreign spinners are not the most glamorous commodity at IPL auctions, Adam Zampa has proved time and again that he is one of the best T20 spinners in the world.

Roped in as a replacement for Kane Richardson for IPL 2020 by Royal Challengers Bangalore, both of them left IPL midway the next season. Which is probably one of the reasons both of them went unsold at the auction this year. Also, the fact that IPL 2022 is being played in pacer-friendly tracks of Mumbai and Pune might not have gone in Zampa’s favour.

SRH have never looked the same bowling unit since the departure of Rashid Khan before IPL 2022. The spin department in particular, seems to lack any bite whatsoever. Zampa is a consistent, world-class wrist spinner, who is pretty capable of bamboozling even the best of batsmen. In this way, it would seem that the needs of SRH and Zampa are complementary. And if SRH are to get back to their glory days of 2010s, they must start with strengthening their spin bowling department.
