South Africa received a major blow as their star fast bowler, Kagiso Rabada picked up a nasty injury which has ruled him out of the ongoing ODI series against Australia. The quick gun is also set to miss the one-day series versus India which has dented the Proteas’ chances of giving India a run for their money. But, most importantly, it will be intriguing to see if Rabada can recover ahead of IPL 2020.

The Delhi Capitals’ pace attack relies entirely on his shoulders as his match-winning performances had powered them to the third position in IPL 2019. The fans of Delhi Capitals would be hoping for his speedy recovery because he was set to be the team’s main foreign player in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League, however, looking at the severeness of his injury, the chances that he misses the IPL and focuses on the T20 World Cup are very high.

Here are the 3 players who can replace Rabada at Delhi Capitals in case he is ruled out of IPL 2020

1. Daniel Sams

After his heroic performances for Sydney Thunder in the recently concluded Big Bash League, Daniel Sams has caught the eye of the various T20 franchises of the world. Sams played a key role in the success that his side achieved in the tournament as he finished the BBL season with the maximum wickets.

Sams made a name for himself with his wicket-taking abilities but unfortunately, in the knockout match against Melbourne Stars, he could not scalp a single wicket. The Aussie player had earlier picked up figures of 4/34 while playing versus Hobart Hurricanes in the first round.

He even ended up with 3 wickets when Sydney Thunder battled against Adelaide Strikers in Adelaide. Given that he can destroy the opposition batting units with wickets at regular intervals, Sams could be a likely replacement for Rabada.

2. Anrich Nortje

Delhi Capitals may try to sign Kagiso Rabada’s compatriot, Anrich Nortje from the unsold list as the right-arm pacer has the capability of wreaking havoc in the IPL. He is likely to be a part of the South African squad that visits India to play a 3-match ODI series later in March thus, the team management of Delhi can have a close look at his style of playing.

Having a glance at Nortje’s numbers, the fans can learn that he is a limited-overs specialist. In the 22 T20 matches that he has played, Nortje has picked up 27 wickets with his best figures being 4/19.

Although he has not achieved much success at the international level, Nortje can gain a lot of experience by playing in the IPL. He was slated to play for the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2019 but unfortunately, an injury denied him from taking part in the competition.

3. Mustafizur Rahman

A surprising name that went unsold during the IPL 2020 Auction was of Bangladesh’s left-arm seam bowler, Mustafizur Rahman. The Bangladeshi player had established himself as a match-winner in his debut series against India. He troubled the world-class Indian batsmen with his variations and soon became a part of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.

He later featured for the Mumbai Indians as well which shows that he has a good amount of IPL experience. As Delhi Capitals have the likes of Ishant Sharma, Avesh Khan, Mohit Sharma, Marcus Stoinis and Chris Woakes in their squad, the presence of the left-armer Rahman will provide variety to the pace bowling attack.

Also, he can be a like-for-like replacement of Trent Boult who was traded out to the Mumbai Indians in the trade window. The Bangladeshi pacer can control the run-flow in the slog overs thus, making up for Rabada’s absence as well.
