Irrespective of the tournament, no team likes to end a season with the wooden spoon. However, it is Delhi leading the way in that context as far as the Indian Premier League (IPL) is concerned. In the 12 seasons, they have finished last on four occasions. They ended with the wooden spoon in 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2018.

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) aren’t too far behind. They’ve remained at the bottom of the points table thrice – 2010, 2015 and 2016. Meanwhile, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) finished last twice in the last three seasons – 2017 and 2019. It’s tough to predict before the season who will finish last this time around with most teams well stacked up. But with less than three weeks to go for the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), here we look at three teams that may just finish with the wooden spoon in this season.

When you take a look at the Rajasthan Royals (RR) squad for the 2020 IPL season, you will find some big match-winners. Ben Stokes, Steve Smith, Jos Buttler, and a few others. However, all these are top-order batsmen and there will be a big rush at the top. There are a lot of other batsmen who are best suited to bat in the top three or at the maximum top four.

However, that won’t be possible and players are bound to play out of position. Moreover, they don’t seem to have firepower in the middle order to provide impetus at the back end. They have David Miller but it will be tough to fit him in the XI. Stokes may not be the enforcer and needs some time to get going.

Moreover, the absence of Jofra Archer creates a big hole. The bowling looks slightly thin with the Barbados-born pacer ruled out. Also, their spin department looks weak as well with only Shreyas Gopal being the only prominent name. Hence, there are flaws and RR might just end up at the last spot on the points table for the first time ever in the 2020 season.
