5 Completely unbelievable incidents in Cricket: Cricket is known to be a conventional, pretty predictable game which has possibly three outcomes and more reasonably only two. But in the history of the game there have been incidents, which have forced the umpires to rethink, some have even induced changes in the rules, while others have left most of us amused. Here are the 5 Completely unbelievable incidents in Cricket: 1. 77 Runs in an over: In the 1989-90 season of the Shell Trophy, R. H. Vance, who was bowling for Wellington, had strict orders from his captain Ervin McSweeney to bowl full-toss lobs without any run up. Vance was instructed to bowl 17 deliberate no-balls which he did, and ended up conceding a world-record of 77 runs in one over!. 2. Ball passes through the stumps without dislodging the bails: In 1997-98 when South Africa was playing Pakistan in Faisalabad, Mushtak Ahmed’s delivery beat Protean Pat Symcox and went to the stumps – but the ball sailed smoothly between the middle and the off stump. The reason to this was, the ball had become a little odd shaped due to the play and though it shook the bails, it couldn’t dislodge them. Symcox was declared not out! 3. Bails fly in the air, settle back on the stumps: October 12, 1950 was a very, very fortunate day for Australian batsman Neil Harvey. While playing in a district game for Fitiroy against Essendon, Marty Dillon’s ball hit Harvey’s stumps. The bails were tossed in the air, but like a boomerang, they returned and sat in the grooves on the top of the stumps – like magic! The umpires examined the stumps and declared Harvey not out! 4. Donnelly, the famous batsman from New Zealand was playing for Warwickshire against Middlesex at the Lords. While playing a Yorker, the ball hit his foot and was tossed in the air. It further went behind the stumps and landed in a hole made by the foot-marks of the bowler only to come back in a reverse direction and take the bails off the stumps! 5. During this dismissal, one of the bails was dislodged and traveled a whopping 67 yards 6 inches in the air before landing! It was almost equal to 212 feet and still remains a world record.
