Virat Kohli had some brilliant moments with the bat and also as captain of the Indian team at the Under-19 level. He led the team to U19 CWC title win in the 2008 edition. Kohli has had 100 per cent winning record as captain as India won all 11 matches in Youth ODI cricket under his captaincy. Prithvi Shaw also has a similar record as India won all the 11 Youth ODIs under his captaincy.

The standout record from Kohli’s Under-19 career came in Youth Test cricket as he registered the fastest known fifty of the format. He achieved this feat during the Kandy Test in their tour of Sri Lanka in 2007. Kohli came into the game having scored 144 in the first match of the Youth Test series. He walked to bat when India were cruising at 317/2 by 68th over of the opening day.

He needed to score quick runs at that point and responded according to the situation. Virat Kohli raised his fifty in only 32 balls which is till date the fastest known fifty in Youth Test matches. He finished unbeaten on 94 from only 51 balls when India made a surprise declaration to make the hosts bat before stumps. The current Indian skipper was one shot away from breaking the fastest hundred in Youth Tests held by Moeen Ali in 56 balls.
